Mike 50 years ago we would have given a lot for this information! Back then the sheet music was often not in the key recorded (E flat for A, B flat for D etc.). The chord voicings were awkward to finger. We gave up and tried to learn it off the record , but we would all hear different things. We also didn't have vocal monitors so the harmonies were random. Crank it up, hold a steady beat and smile!
I have been listening to the Beatles since 1964 when I was 4 years old and my brother bought the Meet the Beatles album, yet I have learned more about the Beatles music from Mike Pachelli then I have listening for all those years. Love it!
This isn't the first, nor the last, time I've watched this particular lesson, Mike. I like playing this song during my just-for-me sessions and occasionally need a refresher course. You might be one of the few in the world that love the Beatles as much as I do. Thanks for being here for us, Brother, your tutorials are absolutely invaluable. (peace ✌and love 💟 as Ritchie would say).
There are other analyses of this great Beatles track ou there on RU-vid - but this is by far the best due to your musical insights, analytic ability and talent. Like many, I was scarred for life as a 17 year old in Liverpool in 1963 by the Beatles music - and I still play them. They've never been bettered. Keep up the good work, Mike!
Still one of my all time favorite Beatle tunes... always brings me right back to hearing it for the first time when the record came out in the USA... For me it just represented the perfect early sound of the British Invasion.. plus they all looked so cool doing the song on Sullivan..
Thanks Mike for keeping alive the real reason why the Beatles are legendary. The music, they were all about the music. Your videos prove that the Beatles were top notch professional musicians. All doubters beware.
I can't help but wonder how many garage bands have dreamt of the day they would be come huuuuge with that initial first hit, AND years later watch guys like Mike Pachelli put up great videos on RU-vid analyzing how they played it, instrument by instrument. Bravo, Mike!
One of my all time favourites. First song I leant that required a 3 part harmony and we did a half decent job of it considering we were all still in school! 😀
I love the Fade out of this song though 😂 fade outs feel like you’re welcomed to their world and when they’re done showing you what they wanted to share you fade away from their world of pain and love ❤️
Mike: you are just amazing! Not only a great guitarist, but your ear for detecting just what each Beatle was doing is just beyond words. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and every one of them has taught me something new while being totally entertained by your dedication and love of The Beatles. Finally, I’ve loved this song since I was a boy because of the bridge, and particularly because of John’s heart-wrenching vocal. I think they only did it once to make it more rare; in other words when the song came on the radio, everyone just stopped so they could hear that bridge, because it only came by once each time. Maybe it was just clever marketing in 1963. Though I’ve heard and played the song countless times, I still always stop to hear that bridge. Thanks for the lesson as always.
Great lesson Mike! My name is Nathan. I’m a 17 year old intermediate guitarist from North Carolina, USA 🇺🇸. It’s so fascinating to see exactly how the Beatles played their music. These guys are my favorite band and it always makes me happy to see someone else with the same passion for them as me! George and John were the whole reason I started playing guitar. The first time I heard Johns rhythm guitar on the song All My Loving, I was mesmerized. Same thing happened when I heard George play on The Beatles version of Words Of Love. Could you do a lesson on that song? I would love to learn it. I have Vinyl copies of almost every Beatles album (I’m only missing 3) Like I said these guys are my favorite band and I love to see people who love them like I do! Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time and my favorite song of all time is Here Comes The Sun. That was the first song I ever heard from them. Thanks for all the great lessons Mike! Hope to see more in the future!😊
It's great to hear that young people still listen and are inspired by The Beatles. They achieved so much in their short 7/8 year history that it is right that they are still celebrated.
You're a very fortunate fellow. When I was your age all we could do was just listen to the records, we had no idea how the songs were put together, or maybe some magazines with chords written on, but they didn't make any sense at all. You're on the right path, studying the Beatles is going to make you a super musician.
That was sooooo on the mark perfect ! Love your breakdown of the song and of course the end when your doing all the parts of the song! Your vocals are spot on ! Thanx so much Mike! Gotta go collect my goosebumps!😳
That was awesome Mike. Sounds excellent, and step by step your teachings are just brilliant. Thanks again for keeping us well educated in Beatles songs, and others, of course. Great day.
Wow! Mike, Thank you for all the effort you put into your awesome, fun-fact filled videos. I've have come to appreciate John's contribution to these songs even more than ever because of your explainations. You must put a lot of time into dissecting every note, chord and strumming pattern, so thank you again!
Awesome info and playing and singing Mike! This was probably the favorite of mine when I got my hands on "Meet the Beatles" in early 1964 and remains very high on my list to this day..I never tire of hearing it & playing it on guitar. You give some real insights to so much of the Beatles stuff & is always a pleasure to watch, listen and learn from you! Thank you Sir!😎
Such a beautiful song. I've thought that the most discernible strumming was played by John but it's not. It's amazing what only two guitars played by two creative guys can do.
Thanks for showing us how to play one of my favorite Beatles songs, Mike. As always, your insights into the nuances of the playing, singing, and recording of the song are much appreciated.
As usual, terrific Mike! One of my favorite all time Beatles songs. Pure musical genius! Thanks for all you do to keep the real music alive & well! Hope that you are doing well & staying safe... 👍👍😉😉
Fabulous lesson again Mike - love that you teach John & George’s parts separately. Of course, when I play this by myself I do a blend of both parts. And like you said, it’s all about enjoying yourself with this great music😎
This is just a wonderful lesson. I had been practicing this song for a while, and your help/instructions will take me to the next level! You are a great teacher!
Your lesson are FANTASTIC. Thank you so much for putting in all the effort to help those of us out here that want to learn these songs...Amazing content and your vocals are equally amazing. I'd give anything to sing like that!
I was 14 years old born in the UK when this song came out and I still have original song books from the beatles with all my scribblings on them because they were published in piano music I was still learning chords so had to work stuff out,I really enjoy your videos and your in depth work on these great songs so thanks Mike.
Good god, what a great lesson, on one of my favorite early Beatles songs. Thanks so much for deciphering exactly what George is doing here. And the vocals are crazy good. And your demo is so good!
Again...a fantastic job! I’ve been playing guitar since 1978 and the ‘early’ Beatles songs kept inspiring me to keep learning. Played the records over and over to figure out the notes👍. Your easy going style and passion for details will inspire many. Thanks again. This has always been one of my favourite Beatles tunes.
You put together a terrific lesson Mike! I’ve tried to play This Boy for long time but have never gotten it quite right. Your video helped me understand a lot more about what John and George were doing. Thanks!
Great lesson, Mike! What an incredible song. Lennon’s voice - Wow, the raw emotion of the lyrics, the power of the driving rhythm of George’s 12 string guitar in particular, some jazz chords, and George’s subtle yet effective and memorable slide guitar at the end. A classic song for all time! Beatles’ musical magic at their finest. I love the song, and I thoroughly enjoyed your stellar lesson. Thank you
That was awesome! I've been playing Beatles tunes since I was a teenager. Your breakdown of the chords let's me see and feel the music like never before and your vocals are spot on. Thanks man
Love how you work all this out, "this boy" is one of my favourites, and when you put it all together, your a great harmoniser too, very well done sir, please do more, cheers.
The Beatles were the first band that really got me into music and George was one of my first major guitar heroes, they definitely had a unique sound and were super adaptive to the music scene in the 60s (having gone from pop to more rock then psychedelia back to rock) so it's no wonder that every musician was inspired by them in one way or another (including me since they made me want to learn guitar when I was a kid and then start a band with some friends a couple years later). Great demo, definitely loved it and keep up the great work
