The timing for this video couldn't be more perfect for me as I've just been looking into the different streaming service options. As an open format DJ, the main reason I'm keen to integrate a streaming service into my Rekordbox would be to help with managing song requests. Beatsource Link is the clear winner here for me. Very informative video, keep up the great work guys.
Great review! I’m a recent convert to Beatsource and that offline locker was the clincher, so useful. Also, Nick’s wedding crates are awesome, spot on.
@@damiencain9179 I can’t link directly but they are all on Beatsource. I highly recommend Beatsource for mobile and wedding gigs, huge selection of music, lots of clean and intro edits etc. If you’re worried about using wifi, the offline locker works great. Any questions feel free to ask.
I’ve never heard of a professional dj only needing 50-100 tracks. More music is never enough. Maybe that’s just me. Both sites are very useful tools 🏆🏆
depends on the genre you're playing. my favourite, progressive house, only needs 6-7 tracks per hour. Hardstyle, Hip-hop, pop, have shorter playtimes per track, might need 15-20/hour. 🤷♂
I was so confused between the two services, you made it pretty clear I appreciate that thank you for this video as all your videos are very informative and entertaining and very interesting
@@Crossfader So the one I subscribed to was beats source link and it was confusing as hell for me. You had to go to certain sections to add songs to the playlist and not all of them were accessible, I canceled and until they make it easier to use and create playlists, I'm gonna have to keep away.
Great video and also very helpful! As being a very busy dj from mobile to doing everything from weddings, clubs, party's etc i am a very busy dj and streaming services seem to be the answer as of rite now im getting my music from a dj pool zip dj and being a very busy dj the whole process of that is such a headache from downloading tracks to putting them in serato to the process still going to having a memory on your laptop or a drive is very annoying and timely process as to streaming makes it very easy just add the track to a play list and boom your all set as to dj worrying about internet we live in a world now a days where everything is or has internet all the clubs, venues i play at all have internet so streaming service a def a go for me
Beatsource has been a godsend for me. I am playing a ton of paid gigs I wouldn't have taken before strictly because of how easy it is to take jobs outside of your usual wheelhouse. It really makes things a lot simpler. You can field basically any request instantly and mix it in without skipping a beat. Don't see as much value for Beatport link. For proper underground gigs playing House, UKG, Jungle etc I'm usually buying/downloading tracks to put on a rekordbox thumb drive - streaming is usually not an option anyway. Would rather spend the money on loose tracks for that kind of gig and call it a day.
Great overview and review....all the clubs I work in have such poor Wifi/ internet and I don't want to hotspot my phone so I'll stick to downloading music. 50 offline tracks from Beatport is not enough in my opinion 1000 songs is better from Beatsource....but why pay $30 when for $20 per month you can download whatever you want. Plus there is something nice about actually owning tracks.
@@naveendd2761 for me personally, I’m still using a record pool where I can download tracks. Internet is not good enough where I DJ. Currently using zip dj and am pretty impressed so far 🙂
I was trying to figure out how to maintain your playlists once you put songs in the offline locker (Traktor), then I realised that once they're in there, the playlists work as before, except that you don't need a wi-fi connection. Very clever.
Awesome advice, it’s not a secret that 90% of the DJs agree that playing the right song at the right time is the most important thing to rock a party 🎊 DTrack-Finder is Also built with DJs in mind!
Thank you for this video.. It was great to hear and see tis presentation and it really helped me decide witch platform is more suitable for me as a starter DJ !!!
Brilliant and succinct (i've been djing for many decades) and I'm looking at the streaming services and this is brilliant review - although back in day standing in a record shop waiting for that special track to be played can't be beat lol ;)
I just got back in to Spinning again and it's been a while, so I dined up for Beatsource since e I do a lot of Latin to different styles of genres and Beatsource was actually my go to and this video just confirmed the right move for me. Thank you!!!
Hey you guys are the best!!!! Love that you keep it simple and don’t try to impose things on people, let us make our own decisions!!! Your guidance and knowledge helps other DJs make the best out of nowadays technology!!!
Really interesting to see how they still find ways to differentiate. I remember the very start of Beatport when it was just a store with a clunky interface, that’s why I liked SoundCloud a lot more back in the day. But it seems SoundCloud is now the one lagging behind (I know it’s first and foremost for creators), I just have a hard time parting ways with, but the track discovery features are not on the same level at all 😕
I'm finally dipping my toes in the music streaming pool. I thought about it and I feel it was time. Since I am an Underground DJ (House, Techno, and Disco) I knew that Beatport Link would be my choice. I am still learning its usage and hopefully to find out if it was worth the $15+ /month sub and I spending. I will be playing out of the country in a couple of months so I will load my USB as usual and download Beatport DJ to my laptop. I already have it on my desktop so hopefully, it allows e to have it on both devices. I will come back here for an update.
I have been thinking about getting into DJing as a hobby again. I had decks and a mixer years ago as a twenty something and with new controllers and online streaming it looks really interesting. My question is do Beatport or Beatsource have access to all the techno and house tracks from the 90s by the likes of Dave Clarke, Joey Beltram, Steve Stoll and other prominent producers of the 1990s???
Superb video which helped me make an informed decision. I have now upgraded from the Beatport basic plan to Beatport Pro, and during the upgrade process, the pro-plan stated that you can store 1000 tracks in the offline locker - not 50 as was mentioned in the video. Regarding the improved audio to 256 AAC, is this applicable to all my existing tracks / playlists in my Rekordbox library, therefore immediate better sound quality, or do I need to re-download the tracks to benefit from the improved audio?
My best mate just got a Numark Mixstream and is looking to sign up to one of these. Beatsource is much better value however the biggest disappointment is there is no drum & bass on it at all. So gonna have to use Beatport until they can get that sorted. But just seems crazy that such a large genre has zero representation considering some of the DJ's who curate the playlists.
It really sucks they don’t offer lossless. For those who think it sounds the same, get your ears checked…lol. I’ve noticed when I play compressed crap, the dance floor clears. When I have a good lossless flac file, the music pumps. DJ’s should refuse anyone peddling compressed crap. We are not on dialup anymore. We have the bandwidth.
I don’t really know what I did wrong but it would only load up most tracks for a couple of seconds. If you want to test it out do so at home. You don’t want to be at a gig with no new music downloaded.
Im a bedroom Dj lurking around for my first gig. My only problem is my music library. I want to buy and own the tracks i going to play. Streaming for me is not a option. I hear so many complain about quality and lagging or error on music downloaded from #Beatport. And i read that many downloads fails and so on. Is this still a problem on Beatport ? Thanks 👍
I don't stream anything but do use regular beatport quite a lot but what I find a big flaw with Beatport is that if you want to browse music from anything other than the current year its almost impossible unless you search under a specific artist/label/dj chart etc as if you go into genres or all dj charts in a genre to get back to say a few years ago you need to go to page 6000 or something and anything above the first 100 pages beat ports website seems to crash freeze up or take forever to load, I have found Juno Download while not perfect a lot better to browse older stuff as well as the current stuff, also Juno seem to discount stuff more especially if you buy a whole album say if you buy a 30 track compilation if you buy the whole thing it will cost £10 which is a significant saving over buying all the tracks separately whereas beatport will charge you 30 times the price of one track if you buy the whole lot so no discount at all for buying the whole thing.
I found it to be the opposite, Franchise is better organized and for music outside of dance it has a better catalog. For soulful House, that is not the place to get music. I currently have Franchise and BPM, and I find much more on Franchise. I didn't like DJ City and dropped it along with Heavy Hits. I will try Zip DJ, but I need a service for dancehall and soca (specifically clean versions). Franchise has the best selection, but have cut down on clean edits.
If you had the 14.99 beatport link account, can you set and save cue points on those tracks in the playlists? And will they react to things like beat slip mode / beat jump etc? In short, will you be able to do all the normal stuff you would be able to do if actually downloaded the song as long as connected to internet? (Except of course make an edit of it)
Where's the link for the 3 month trial? Why offer it if not we need to go and search for it when you could have just posted it on this video? I even checked the more button but there's nothing there
Personally I think Beatsource is diabolical, sorry to all the boys out there behind it but from what i have seen it's just not a reliable source at all and in the heat of the moment that can kill your party. I have had countless times where the the desired track load has failed and songs just don't appear and that's in 2022! I'm not really interested in the reason for it at this point but until that's ironed out I would rather buy 10 solid downloads for the same price as a month of sheer Beatsource hag-shaggery....and that's the politest way I could have said that.
While the word underground is thrown around..its only electronic music. There is no service yet that I know to curate underground hip hop or " backpack" rap. Anyone want to clue me in? 25 year dj left my vynal on mainland..here on the island I could only order the rev 1. By pioneer close to my battle hip hip set up. Any others out here in the dark who don't play " mainstream" music? Is soundcloud plus the only one now that Amazon music took away streaming?
Im currently a terrible human using youtube for my music downloads , will the basic sound quality of beatport be 10 times better than my youtube downloads quality ? as this is the reason im gonna start my beatport experience as youtube quality is terrible and spoils mixes when a muffled track comes in
We've not experienced any tracks being removed in our testing with the services. Unlike record pools, streaming services are allowed to legally back catalogue the music so I can't see why this would happen in the future
“Both Beatport and Beatsource LINK can be used legally in a live performance, with a new royalties system ensuring artists receive much more than from regular streaming services” Are you sure? If you read the contract terms: “5. Prohibited Use of LINK Content streamed on LINK is intended for your personal use only. Use of LINK for public performance purposes will require additional licensing, which is not included as part of your subscription”. What’s unclear?
hi I am a USB dj, I have used soundcloud until now to convert to MP3, I would like to use beatport, Dj city etc, but do not know if it works to convert to MP3 from these arenas! do you have any tips on how to download MP3 songs from different arenas? where do you get your music from and convert to MP3? -Elias Lona
