David Finlay filmed this footage of the glow caused by a bioluminescent algae, called Noctiluca scintillans, at Jervis Bay.
“The algae may remain on Barfleur Beach at Vincentia for several days, allowing many people to witness this magical natural phenomenon,” added David.

According to my research sea sparkle or Noctiluca scintillans is a marine species of dinoflagellate that can exist in a green or red form, depending on the pigmentation in its vacuoles. It can be found worldwide, but its geographical distribution varies depending on whether it is green or red.

I don't know why these people were only dipping their toes in. I've been lucky enough to see bioluminescence like this, and let me tell you. Go full on swimming in the ocean, with good goggles, it's actually magic. If you get the chance, don't just dip your toes in!! Get your whole body in, it's unreal

We humans can witness this natural phenomenon when there is lots of bioluminescence in the water, usually from an algae bloom of plankton. The bioluminescent sea will glow when it's disturbed by a wave breaking or a splash in the water at night. Algae bloom sea sparkle events are caused by calm and warm sea conditions.

There was a place like this in southern Puerto Rico. It was called Saint Germaine. They closed for hundreds of years until the 1980s when pollution wiped it out. Manhattan Beach has it right now in early May 2020 in California

Yes because they are toxic and their bloom (overpopulation) is one of the factors of coral reef destruction. But still it looks mesmerizing.

I live in Southern California & it comes during certain seasons. I see it when the waves break. U only see it when there's disturbance in the water. I dont see as much as what u guys are experiencing but I think I will get into the water next time to cl it out.

That is Jervis Bay, south of Sydney. Beautiful place and a National Park. This is the most spectacular display of bioluminescence I have ever seen. Queensland gets it regularly.

If you happen to experience something like this, don't be shy, swim in it, it's safe as long as you don't drink the water. Non toxic, it's defense mechanism is to shine through the fish belly so they can be hunted by bigger fish and remove them from the evolution pool he fish brave enough to eat the plankton.

So you'll kill the Noctiluca(Dinoflagellates) by suffocation which are causing this bioluminescence.... So you'll have a bottle of normal water only ultimately...
