This is my review of Florilegium - The Book of Plants by Basilius Besler. Published by Taschen as part of the Bibliotheca Universalis collection. Thanks for watching! Instagram: / alexdoubleyou_
Found an original page from the color edition in the thrift for $20 . Worth about $1800- but some single pages can cost $9,000. I thought it was a repro at first , but I used a flashlight to provide raking light across the surface and could see the pigments and the shadow of the copper plate description on the reverse . Print features : Nepeta Germanica , Nepetella and Menta Felina ( catnip)
Gorgeous! Any idea who the illustrator is? I scoured the internet but couldn't find out. Such beautiful illustrations. Thank you for doing this! Edited to add: Very sorry! Was watching your Ireland folk tale book in my other tab and meant to ask this question there. Sorry again!
Haha no worries! Unfortunately I don't know who the artists are. There is a landscape painting by Alfred Heaton Cooper but sadly the other images don't have any legible artist signatures nor is credit given in the publishing information. My guess is the images are in the public domain so tracking down the artist(s) may be difficult.
