Here's a question? Having recently worked in the travel industry as a travel agent for nearly 20 years I've seen a huge shift in the way people book their holidays especially since the power of social media & trip advisor. I agree Instagram is a powerful tool if used in the right way. I'm not knocking Instagram I'm a huge fan ! Travel agents are there to give advice as well as earning commission for spending their time and expertise to arrange people's travel plans who don't have the time or confidence to do it themselves . I'm thinking the reason travel companies don't get so heavily involved in social media is because the more knowledge people have via social media the less likelihood people will need a travel agent ? It would be great if the two would work in synergy with each other but as time goes on and people become more confident in arranging their own travel plans there will be no need for a high street travel agent or call centres ... After all it's not difficult to arrange your own plans and book direct with hotels although your not covered by ATOL but people don't seem to be bothered about that these days ) Maybe that's why the travel Industry don't get too involved with Social media & Instagram... Unless they want to earn money from Instagram of course ? All replies welcomed ...
