Beautiful Downtown SANTA BARBARA California 🇺🇸 

A friend of mine and I spent about 3 days in Santa Barbara back in the 90's. If there is a Heaven on Earth, it is in Santa Barbara. The city is just devoid of any urban blight, ghettos, grafitti, and I suspect minorities and crime that plague usual cities of this size. It's clean, weathy, beautiful, and almost not real, if you know what I mean. It's like the whole city is a big theme park without all the usual urban decay or deterioration. I could live there forever - if I could afford it! 🤗💕

"I graduated SBHS in 1983." Youngster!!! So you wouldn't remember The Kopper Koffee Pot, there on State Street? Or the State Theatre? Or the Mission Theatre, there on lower State Street? And what about The Spigot? Mom's Italian Village? And, yeah, the Castagnola family were all over the place. Fond memories of Mr. C resting his head on Mrs. C's lap outside the Dodger Stadium in his Cadillac. Virginia and Renee were the daughters. So thanks for the young memories, 7 Skydog! You rock.

@dogloverNV I have also lived in both Santa Barbara and London and I think the comparison very unfair. Of course London has more history, culture etc but the population is 100 times greater! Santa Barbara has wonderful weather and scenery and if that is what you want go there. On the other hand, if you prefer to visit the British Museum and go to the theatre, then you need to be in London!

Beautiful town but the people piss you off.

My thumbnail is of me sitting on a ledge of what became the ruins of Knapp's Castle. At Fifteen years old, my parents bought a three-acre Estate in Hope Ranch, More Mesa Beach was in walking distance, but you would always find me and my friends up at Red Rock. Born and raised, never did a day go by that I didn't take for granted the inherent beauty of my hometown. In 1993, my mom died and left the estate to my three brothers and me. In addition to the main house, on the lower end of the property, my father had built a one bedroom cottage for rental income. Unbeknownst, was the deviance and greed that one brother had to manipulate my trust, to swindle, con, trick, steal, forge court documents, withhold financial information that was to my benefit, in the end, I lost my share of a million-dollar estate. Twelve years went by during which I divorced losing the condominium we owned and became a renter. Paying $1,600 for a boxed in two-bedroom apartment off Sola Street. A great neighborhood if you are a gang member. Working as a financial accountant my income was enough to pay my bills. That was until 2013 when an ophthalmologist diagnosed my vision trouble as advanced Glaucoma. Afterward, I had to retire and began receiving SS Disability Income of $1,294.00, which left no way to stay in Santa Barbara. Two months after my diagnosis, I left Santa Barbara, my grown children, and my newborn grandson. If it was not for my younger brother's offer to rent me a unit in a duplex he owns I would have been homeless. Unfortunately, his duplex is 6 hours North, in Hell, USA. A city that in 2016 held the honored title of Murder Capital of California, a city that in 2015 ranked 7th on a list of 15 cities with the highest crime rate per capita in California. Have you ever felt homesick? It is profound sadness, like attending the funeral of your best friend except it never ends. The city's lack of culture, civility, parks, something as simple as a clean creek or a Department Store with merchandise higher in quality than Sears worsens the feeling of homesickness. Sometimes, I think of putting everything I own into storage and live out of my car. Except, the DMV revoked my driver's license because of my glaucoma. I cry when I view videos of Santa Barbara, I would write that I am heartbroken, but I left my heart behind in Santa Barbara.

@T4nku0ut This video was posted in June, and in Southern Ca all along the coast there's this thing called "June Gloom", where it's cloudy every morning in late spring/early summer due to a marine layer hovering over the coast. It usually clears up in the afternoon though.

Jeez, 7 Skydog, what part of the country do you live in now? And with such passion in your writing about ol' SB, why not move back from wherever you are now? The only area for me that comes close to SB is Claremont, CA. I thank you and RU-vid for helping me preserve memories of times gone by (you, too, Dooley Wilson).

Santa barbara is beautiful but to visit a weekend cause if you live there is bored

As all over the country, it's predominantly "white/conservative/christian." SB never lent itself to that kinda migration you'd see in, say, Saginaw, MI. And it's even a shock to read of a homeless build-up there. Homeless in SB? Puh-leez! It's bad enough for the hoi polloi. But it can boast high profile, part time Oprah, and once upon a time, Lena Horne. A parvenu is Snoop Dogg. Elizabeth Street was the centerpiece of a small black middle class in SB there once was, years ago..

Unfortunately, it's not a feature of SB, the high cost of things you allude to. That feature, alas, is ubiquitous. And what's surprising many in the area of Stanford, CA., is that even East Palo Alto is pricey. Now that's saying a lot. Many during my time there relocated to nearby Oxnard. But I should imagine by now even Ox's pricey. Main, c'est la vie comme on dit chaque jour en passant dans la rue!

Good place for a young person to live ?

they are so crazy in SB they have mental health first aid kits, next level nuts.

As a Santa Marian(Yeah, your big noisy neighbor up north. We don't like you Santa Barbarans much either), I'm jealous to see a city with a thriving downtown. We have that Ugly mall, ugh, I don't get why they don't just C4 it all ready.
