Beautiful Forgotten Doctor Q’s Farm House Deep Down South in Alabama 

Amazing woodwork! That cypress never seems to rot... All of those fireplaces, & low ceilings... She's a masterpiece, that's not too far gone!

What a stunner! So beautiful inside and out with all the architecture. Unfortunately, ya lost me with the BATS!! Hahahahaha! I can’t even. What an amazing house. I don’t think it was ever remodeled. It looks like it would have been in the late 1800’s. Only modern updates I seen was electricity. Nice find!

Hello Kappy and Crew! Hope everyone is doing well. Oh, what a lovely house! It's a perfect dollhouse of a place, with its interesting architecture! The house of six gables! How quaint it is! Let's start exploring! It's odd that in such an amazingly designed house, regular plywood was used on the walls like it's something very special! The thermostat and other elements are mounted carefully onto and often into the plywood! It doesn't appear to be covering damage, either, just put there like that 70s paneling that was hung on our parents' walls so long ago. That's very strange, indeed! It's almost like someone was trying to make it look like a log cabin inside! This house has a strange vibe to it and I can't quite figure it out. It's not creepy or scary, not even sad or even angry. It feels almost like someone simply gave up trying to live in the house, so they just stopped trying to live here. If anything, this house feels lonely! The upstairs rooms are very large, except for the bat room. It's odd, considering that the other rooms have so many large windows, that this one should be so dark. Kappy, dear, bats won't hurt you! Unless you're sleeping in the room with them, they will avoid you completely! If you were to take a nap in that room and it was a cold day, they might seek your warmth and then accidentally bite you. There is, however, a very real danger from stirring up dried bat guano (poop) with your feet and breathing in the ammonia from their urine and the pathogens in the airborne particulates of their dried guano. Extended exposure to that stuff can be fatal! Interestingly, large caves in other places are the source of guano fertilizer. Men go into the bat infested caves with nothing more than kerchiefs tied atlround their mouths and they shovel the "black gold into large burlap sacks to be shipped abroad. Generally, the worst thing that can happen when you encounter a colony of bats is that you'll trip and fall while running for safety. Bats will NOT get in your hair or attack you. Their fragile wings, which are actually long-fingered hands with webs of skin stretched between the fingers, are easily damaged. Bats use their sense of echolocation, where they make very high-pitched squeaks which bounce off walls, trees or prey, giving the bat a mental map of their surroundings. By this method, bats avoid flying into something or someone, which might injure their wings. In short, they do NOT want to get anywhere near humans! Almost all bat bites come from people handling them. Because they seek to protect their wings, they use the only defensive weapon they have...their very sharp little teeth, which are usually reserved for snatching flying insects from the air. I have plans to erect a bat house in our yard to attract little brown bats to roost near our home (outside, not inside). The reason for this that a bat can eat its weight in mosquitoes in one night! They are nature's pest control specialists! Bats are becoming endangered in some locations, partly due to human disturbance of their roosts and nursery locations. Mostly, bat mortality is due to a fungal infection called "White Nose Syndrome" or a title very like that. The bats' winter hibernation is interrupted by amateur spelunkers (cave explorers) who tramp through the quiet silence of the bats' hibernating places. The bats awaken and fly around in confusion, using the small amounts of fat they stored in their bodies to sustain them in the winter. If these intruders have visited a cave where the fungus causing White House Syndrome is present, their shoes or clothing can carry fungal spores into the newly disturbed cave. The bats in this cave become infected with the fungal spores, which causes a white fungus to grow on the noses and, sometimes, the entire muzzle of the bat, preventing him from breathing properly by blocking his nasal passages and causing severe itching, which awakens the infected bats. They begin flying around, waking their sleeping neighbors and soon the whole colony has awakened to use the precious fat that could have spared them from starvation that winter. In the spring, the cave floor is littered by their tiny bodies. Many cave systems in the Southern United States are now closed to protect the bats inside. Several subspecies of bats are in real danger of extinction, due solely to White Nose Syndrome.. Please don't be afraid of these amazing flying mammals, Kappy! If you don't grab one or smack it with a broom to knock it down, it will not hurt you! Bats are really very gentle creatures, if they're not attacked. This house really deserves to be conserved, possibly even put on the Register of Historic Places. Its interesting architecture speaks of a fascinating history. I'm sure it has many wonderful stories to share! Thanks for the discovery and the research, Kappy! I'm sorry you were made to be afraid by the little bats, possibly little brown bats, which are critically endangered. They were more afraid of you than you were of them, though. Now, let's see what we can find down in the lovely State of Alabama, my folks' home state. This house has been left alone for along time. The young forest encroaching from every direction speaks to an abandonment of at least twenty years. Another twenty and the house will be impossible to approach at all, if it's still standing! Oh, that huge bowed bay window is so pretty! These rooms are so filled with light and so large! Sadly, with the roof collapse upstairs and the resulting structural damage and mold, there's not much sense in trying to save this old girl. Once again, intrepid explorer, we are several decades too late to glimpse this house in its beauty. We can only guess at the former glory it once wore. Thanks for the two explorations, Kappy. The houses were each interesting, in their own way. You did well, faithful guide, in showing us the architecture of the South. I, for one, appreciate it. You have done a good job of showing my home's beauty and the sadness and devastation brought about by a senseless, useless war. I'm looking forward to seeing what you find next!

I was watching The Patriot the other day and the scene that Gabriel is looking out of the window at the battle and they pan back to Benjamin, you can see the details of the room they're in...and I had to laugh because I said out loud "That looks like a place Kappy has been!" Lol! I do love Charleston and the homes around the low country! This one you've shared with us today, however, is in my neck of the woods. Alabama is full of abandoned homes. It just shows how prosperous this area was until... Thank you for taking us along and sharing these breathtaking adventures, Young Kappy!

Beautiful old place. Would have been considered a mansion in it's day. Looks like someone was trying to remodel but gave up. No doubt more than the place is worth with all the deterioration of the walls and floors. Those bats won't hurt you. but they are extremely hard to get rid of and can nest in entire walls and attics. Surprised to see them flying during the day. Very nice post Kappy.

Oh wow those old windows with the ropes ! Our old family home had those.. when the rope wore out & broke, you had to use a stick to prop the window open!

The 1st house was absolutely gorgeous!!! Such a once stately, grand place!!! The wood was in such pristine condition! I just wanted to go in there & apply a wonderful stain, oil preservative & condition & restore this beautiful property to it’s original grandeur!!! I can’t believe the foundation… how did it last as long as it did with such limited support??? The house itself was in phenomenal shape for its age!!! The original banister, fireplaces, baseboards, windows, window casings, doors, door casings & hardware… in such beautiful shape 👍🙏💕 It would have been a bear to roof in its day!!! The gables were beautiful though 👍❤️ The second house, wasn’t in nearly as good of shape, had, had some poorly remodeling jobs done to it & was much more deteriorated!!! Sad, because once upon a time, with the fireplaces & original structure intact, I’m sure that this was a beautiful place as well!!!😞😢😰 Thank you Kappy for sharing this wonderful video with us!!! What a beautiful old house!! It was well made to be 130 years old!! I was roflmao when the bats appeared! I'm surprised you stayed on the floor with them in there, lol!! That first house was unusual in the way that none of the walls were painted because of the use of cypress wood paneling in almost every room. I am a big fan of natural wood but maybe not everywhere in the house. That bat encounter was funny to watch but I doubt that it was funny to you. You were lucky that they all seemed to be happy to stay in that one room and not go after you. Thanks for sharing!

Two amazing houses the first one was huge and still had lots of old charm and the second one with the wrap around porch was amazing great finds i love the really old houses.

Both houses were very cool but the second was my favorite. So charming!

The plywood walls downstairs we're done by a nice guy a while back. He wanted to be sure the walls stay intact. So you can see that all the furniture was moved around so they can put in the plywood. The furniture is late 60s to early 70s. The second room on the right has some letters and such. There are sweetheart letters in there. This house should be preserved by the state. So far, the new owners have done nothing but let the yard grow.

The first house, from the outside it definitely looked much larger. Love the woodwork. At 8:17 that fuse box next to the fireplace looked out of place, this place definitely had electricity but I didn’t see any water.

My dad used to repair those big old TV'S. I thought we were rich cause we had TV in every room. 😊😊😊😊

As for myself and as far as homes go..and if I had the money and had to choose between a new modern home or to restore this home..i would pick this home....it is incredible!!!...kappy I have watched your videos for sometime.. you have dealt with bats, snakes, raccoons, birds and vultures..go through decayed boards...spider webs...hot and freezing temperatures..and still have enthusiasm..with a holy cow and that's cool at all the wonders the houses bring..thank you so much for showing us these old homes giving us a glimpse of our history..i really enjoy them!!!!

That first house was an incredible find,just so beautiful,and in good shape considering it's age,I'm wondering if there's any family left to claim it and put it on the national registry,so rich in history.,Maybe the good doctor had his office set up there too. Love those window panes and front porch,I'd be set, I know u love porches also kappy. I love the bay windows in the second house(yes they're called bay windows), the second house has that great veranda,I'd have chimes,a cot ,aa nice table set. It always makes me wonder how many people lived in these homes and if knew how lucky they were !! The Bat House was more interesting on the outside. I guess all the plywood downstairs was covering the lathe? Loved the wide hall in the second house. And the sleeping porch. In the end of the video you showed that Louisiana house that was wide open and being rained in when you visited. Any update on that one. I really hope they finish that one. Thanks for the tours. I love the outside architect, the gables, the fireplaces. An old baby swing from the 1980s. Nice wood work on the stairs. Love looking at the older furniture to guess what year it was from. I wish that they made houses like they did years ago, the wood ceiling, walls all that's needed is bathrooms on the first and second floors and a big kitchen.

I’ve got to give Kappy yet ANOTHER SHOUT OUT of THANKS for his great exploration videos! I just viewed two other “ exploring” channels today, that were disappointing at best. You still top everyone else , because you actually care MORE ABOUT the subject matter of what you are filming, than needing to “hear yourself talk” OR have to film “yourself talking” instead of the showing the house you are exploring! I just watched a RU-vidr that was “exploring a town”. While she was driving “thru the town” she chose to inform about, she had the camera ON HERSELF, instead of the TOWN she was driving right through! And chatting about things that were NOT pertinent to the subject matter. To each his own, but many of these kind of exploration videos would be better named “ Look At ME!Look at ME!”. Sheesh! Both of the other videos I watched, could have been so much more interesting & informative, if they hadn’t been on such an “ego trip”! In fairness, they might not realize that’s how they come off, but they do, and it’s such a turn off & time waster. The other one I viewed had a typical “too noisy & LENGTHY”introduction,& I end up just scrolling ahead,to get to the subject matter, and THEN 9 times out of 10, so much music was added, like all kinds of danger music and/or weird music, that just DISTRACTS, rather than adds to the video. Obviously they THINK that makes it “more interesting”, when it actually SPOILS what could have been , a more interesting video. It’s so unfortunate that these RU-vidrs can’t, or won’t, see this mistake & realize “ less is MORE”. So THANK YOU KAPPY for being secure enough within yourself, not to be that “needy “! Keep up the Good work, IT’s appreciated more today, then ever before- not trying to be mean but dang those other videos i watched today were terrible

Thanks Kappy, I think that's a purpose built house with doctors office, you have one room off another (the doctors office off a waiting room perhaps?), concealed staircase makes the living quaters private. Very cool, even with the 50's/60's plywood wall remodel and the bats!! 🦇🦇🦇🦇

You should consider creating a special program on the critters which live in old abandoned houses--vultures, owls, bats (what species?), cave crickets . . .

I was exposed to a bat last fall it got into my apartment when I was sleeping. I had to report to Health Department and they said I had to go to the ER. GOT 6 RABIES SHOTS THAT DAY AND 3 MORE DURING THE NEXT 10 DAYS!

I'm a bit confused why the walls on the first floor of the doctors house all are made of plywood, maybe someone had started remodeling it? I'm glad to see the house was basically "cleaned out" of all the doctor (and his family) possessions. I would hate to see his library, personal items, or old furniture left to rot. Thanks Kappy, steer clear of those bats!

There appears to be a coffin door on the left side of the first house. These were common in New England homes, not sure if southern homes had them. Their purpose was to carry caskets into and out of the front parlor after someone passed away. People would come to the home to pay their final respects to the deceased in the front parlor, then the casket would be removed through the coffin door for burial.

What beautiful, interesting architecture! LOVE all the gables. There's nothing quite like cypress wood for durability! I imagine that's why it's still as intact as it is with all the Alabama humidity. Cool how they were quite conservative with the set of stairs. The bats won't hurt you; they're trying to get away from you, too. The fireplace surrounds with the light greenish patina---maybe a plaster?

Aww don't freak out about the bate... their more afraid of you than you are of them, probably go in and out through the old chimneys and roost in the house. Remember the bats eat insects not people 😂

I was wondering how many gables there were before you told us. That's definitely different. This house is very unusual. That tv looks like it's from the 50's. I thought the house was kind of batty and it really was. I can't say that I liked this one, but it's location looked beautiful. The 2nd house, it sounds like it is beside a busy road. It looks like it has been abandoned a very long time. The second story porch would have been a sleeping porch for those hot summer nights. This one is well hidden by all of the vegetation.

Bats can be startling! My grammar school was built in 1878 & was a big old sandstone and brick building, hardwood floors, wrought iron coat hooks, heated by coal , and a HUGE ATTIC that stored extra desks, vintage class photos & a big old Bell. And BATS! Lots of bats! It was a grand old place .. sadly it was razed in 1974…
