Extremely pretty flowers, almost worth growing just for the ornamental value. I'd have pinched some pollen from the Panama red flower to see if it would fertilise the lilikoi

A viewer commented that the two varieties aren't able to pollinate each other, but that two different Lilikoi can, so I might have to purchase another Lilikoi in spring.

George I’m very happy to see it coming to maturity ! Hopefully soon you’re going to be enjoying a delicious giant passion fruit (granadillo) lilykoi is going to be mind blowing!

It needs another Lilikoi or compatible variety for cross-pollination.

I hope that it’s wrong information! Back in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 we never had that issue with it ! But I could be wrong and your could be a hybrid and maybe you’ll need another! But probably first flowers Were duds ! I’m keeping fingers crossed 🤞 that you won’t need another plant !

I gave you an update on my Papaya that I planted in spring on the comment on that Papaya video of Comments section with some tips you may want check out. As pointed out mine is all good is the same size and I believe I would be in a colder area than you are in Melbourne so hopefully you 2nd Papaya comes good ? If its cold that’s the problem the green tube bag as I said would help. It’s all the fun of gardening what work ?

I'm shocked to see the Panama Red declining after only three years ! I thought they lived for 5-8 years on average... I'm not sure if cross pollination would work for the ones you have, but I think it's possible it would work. As long as you have bees visiting the flowers, and the two species are closely related enough, they should be able to cross pollinate, although probably not as effectively as they would if you had two plants from the same species. I believe the banana passionfruits (Tacsonia group) will not be able to cross pollinate with most of the other passionfruits, for example. I have three types of passionfruits : maypops (passiflora incarnata), tucumanese passionfruit (passiflora tucumanensis), and a hybrid (passiflora cincinnata x (incarnata x tucumanensis)). They should all be able to cross pollinate despite the species barrier, according to what I've read. They just recently started growing again, as we finally have some warm weather in Europe. I haven't had any fruits yet as they've barely flowered so far (and it was too late in the growing season for fruits), but hopefully soon, so I can confirm what I've read. Apparently the blue passion vine (passiflora caerulea) is a great pollinator for many different species because it produces a lot of pollen. Its fruits aren't very tasty, though. So who knows, it might be worth trying to hand pollinate a few flowers just to make sure if it works or not.

I might get on a ladder and try hand pollinating, with winter only days away, so we'll see.

hi george, as a reminder to my previous comment make sure the second plant you get is not the same ( not from Daley’s cuttings as genetics will identical ). get another passiflora alata clone from another nursery furthermore, growing seedlings from passiflora alata seeds will be your best option to have genetic diversity worth the hassle. the fruit is delicious.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again!

Absolutely gorgeous 🤩 Unrelated, but do I remember correctly that you grow Okinawa Spinach? How does it handle cold Winters?

It hangs in over winter, but slugs and snails chew almost every leaf. It shoots back in spring with new growth.
