hello brother. I need advice. What microphone do you recommend for quartz or metal bowls and gongs? dynamic or condenser? cardioid? supercardioid? record in stereo? I would appreciate any recommendation or insight, since I have always listened to your videos and am fascinated by the sound you manage to transmit. Thanks in advance
That is a real issue for those of us that play these instruments. There is a whole chain of events to address beforehand going from the actual instruments to the room sound to the recording machine and other misc things. My suggestion is to go to youtube and see all the mic techniques etc and then determine what will work within your budget. Dont move too fast on this. If the budget is small just see what you can do with what you have and then grow from there. Mics are not as important as the actual instruments themselves and how the mics are placed in your room as well as the most important thing which is the actual mix in production. As a general rule..get quiet mics with good rejection if there is a lot of street noise. If you have a bigger budget then go for more quality instruments & equip. But if I were you..I would start w/a Zoom recorder or similar and grow from there as you begin to understand how these things work. Cheers, TS
