Beautiful Names of Allah (pt.8)- *Al-Wadud*- Dr. Shaykh Yasir Qadhi Difference between Wud and Mahabba: 1-Mahabba can be used for any type of love; Wudd is a specific type of love where you want to benefit the person you love (a nurturing love) like the mother's love for her child. 2-Mahabbah is what is in the heart; Wudd is what is shown in your actions so Allah's love is demonstrated, not just abstract. Allah’s blessings are a manifestation of his love. And we show love to Allah by obeying His commandments and praising Him. _The Name of Allah Al-Wadud means:_ 🔸 The One who shows love: Allah created the creation to show them His Love and Mercy. *إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ رَبُّكَ ۚ وَلِذَٰلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ* ۗ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَةُ رَبِّكَ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ (سورة هود 119) Ibn al Qayyim says: it is not strange for any created being to love that which is taking care of it, what is amazing is when the creator chooses to love the creation while He has no need for them. 🔸 The One who upon whom love is shown. Loving Allah is the primary element of worship and the most important manifestation of our belief in Him. وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ أَندَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّهِ ۖ *وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِّلَّهِ* (سورة البقرة 165) Ibn Taymiyyah: the love of Allah is a unique love because only Allah is loved for who He is. محبة الله تعالى مقصوة لذاتها Every other object that you love, there is an element of selfishness in it. There is no love that u have for a creation except that it will hurt you (either by losing them or if they harm you). So only our love for Allah will never hurt us 🔺Al-Wadud occurs twice in the Quran: " وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ *إِنَّ رَبِّي رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ* " [هود:90] " إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ (13) *وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ* " [البروج:13-14] Thus we use this name in duaa: 1- When we Need Allah's Rahmah and blessings. 2- When we need Allah's maghfirah. 🔺Of the manifestations of Allah's wudd is that He has placed love in our hearts for his creations ▪️Love between spouses: وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَ, *جَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً* ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ (سورة الروم 21) ▪️Love between family members: قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا *الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَىٰ* (سورة الشورى 23) _How do we increase the love of Allah in our hearts?_ 🔹By studying the Names of Allah and His Attributes. 🔹By Loving His prophet ﷺ. قُلْ *إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ* وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ (آل عمران 31) If you love Allah, follow me and Allah will love you 🔹Love of Good deeds: Reading Quran, charity, Dhikr, sponsoring orphans, etc. *إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وُدًّا* (سورة مريم 96) Those who believe and do good deeds, Allah will love them, the angels will love them, and mankind will love them قال رسول الله ﷺ: ((إذا أحب الله العبد نادى جبريل: إن الله يحب فلانًا فأحببْه فيحبه جبريل، فينادي جبريل في أهل السماء: إن الله يحب فلانًا فأحبوه، فيحبه أهل السماء، ثم يوضع له القبول في الأرض))؛ متفق عليه. 🔹By making Dua to Allah. قَالَ رَسولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: كانَ مِن دُعاءِ دَاوُدَ عليه السلام: " *اللَّهمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ*، وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ، وَالعمَل الَّذِي يُبَلِّغُني حُبَّكَ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعل حُبَّكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِن نَفسي، وأَهْلي، ومِن الماءِ البارِدِ (روَاهُ الترمذيُّ)
