37:28 There are 2 mage organizations. The first is the Imperial Mages, it's the official government ran organization, the one technically founded by Flamme when she convinced the emperor to allow teaching magic to humans. Denken climbed the ladder there and he is the leader of the imperial mages, giving him the power to "order nations around". So Denken was possibly a mage from a young age. The other is the Continental Magic Association, founded by Serie around 50 years ago. Which quickly took over the leading position among mages thanks to Serie's gift, first class mages asking for any spell they desire which usually turns them into monstrous super beings.
Great watching it with you guys! Just wanna say this show has some hardcore loyal dudes; Denken never re-married after losing his wife 50 years ago and Himmel never even married anyone as he was only ever in love with Frieren. Incredible show of faith from the both of em
Serie was (seemingly) always disappointed by her students she took on never reaching her level, but never regretted teaching them. Also the perfect endpoint for this season. If it never got renewed for whatever reason it works very well. As far as Serie's skill in suppressing mana goes there's a theory that it was Serie who taught Flamme to always suppress it in the first place. It seems really only very useful for use during a fight to deceive demons for very long lived mages that have centuries to practice and hone it like Elves or if you start very young and have immense talent like Flamme and Fern. Ultimately for 99.9% of mages it's better to focus on learning deadlier spells and increasing your mana than it would be to try and hone your control to the level only a demon king could recognize your suppression. Ultimately its just supposed to have demons drop their guard so you can get a cheap shot in with a spell or something they didn't think you had the mana to cast. Like if a dude rolled up on you thinking you only had a pair of brass knuckles and he has a sword. but then you pull out a hidden 12 gauge instead.
Enjoyed the reactions guys, I’ll be back when season 2 is ready! Also, I just want to point out that the piano music playing in ep27 while Himmel recounts Frieren casting the flower spell for him is the same music playing when Flamme tells her about it in ep 10
Also, also, “bumper crop” refers to there being a lot of good mages in this batch. If you’ll recall, Seriewas complaining that too many people passed the second test, but apologized to Sense after she got her own look at then
The Golden Land Arc next!!! You can buy until volume 6 for the manga if you scare to get spoil because the anime is until first few chapters in volume 7.
The only disappointment for Serie is just the lifespan of a human. She is just a godlike cliché tsundere. Himmel watching only Frieren instead of the flower field. Land passing the exam through zoom and Stark with the nobel-ptsd. "Death is not the only goodbye in this life" hits every time
42:38 I think Kraft is older purely because he looks visibly far older like a grown man in his late 30s-early 40s while Serie still looks like a young adult. He also has the maturity of a middle aged person compared to Serie’s somewhat childish attitude in some parts
40:13 As Lernen says Serie's (secretly suppressed) mana is equal to Frieren's true mana. Flamme taught Frieren (in EP10) to release 1/10th of her true mana. If Serie does the same she is 10 times stronger than Frieren.
i think Serie was right to fail Frieren personally. When you think about it, this organization is made for human, so usually Serie evaluated attendants by human standards, however Frieren is not a human, she's a mage with over a thousand years of magic training, and, as Serie said, she is still lacking in many areas, because she only did one thing for most of those one thousand years, and we basically know canonically that Serie is never wrong when it comes to magic. When you add to this fact that the certificate is useless for Frieren, and that she has no interest in working for continental magic association, i think it's just right that she fails. I also love the other interviews, especially Land's, that guy really went to meet to most powerful mage in the world and first thing he tries to troll her, and when he gets called out, he doubles down on the troll, my man got balls, Serie kinda liked it tho :D I also think Serie is serious when talking about mana suppression, to her that's probably a skill that comes very late in the importance scale, she probably learned that because she has nothing left to learn, but she would surely not recommend spending your first thousand years of practice doing that. I hope in the future we will be able to see Serie's full mana capacity, since she confirmed she's also suppressing it, honestly if she releases the suppression the mana might be so big you won't even realize it unless you watch from the sky or something. Oh, by the way, Fern totally picked that spell because she was jelous that Frieren hugged Methode and said she smelled nice, no one can convince me otherwise 🤣
