Here on tour with Johnny Cash In 1968, Mother Maybelle sings and plays the Autoharp on the Hymn “Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem.” Maybelle’s voice and Autoharp picking are so pretty on this song in my opinion.
What a great rendition of Mr. Fisher Boyce's song. He wrote it in 1938, and now is being played around the World. Mr. Boyce lived out of Murfreesboro, Tn, when he wrote the song in Christiana. I remember him well. He wrote it in a milk shed. It just come to him pretty fast. He was a really nice Christian man. His son led singing at a Church close by.
Very, very nice, pure and simple. 2:10 and after shows Mother Maybelle at one of her appearances on the folk music circuit accompanied by two-thirds of the New Lost City Ramblers, John Cohen,on the left of the picture and Tracy Schwarz on the right.
Beautiful! Thank you for posting. Wish I could find Mother Maybelle's exact lyrics. Looked all over the net but her version doesn't quite seem to be there. O well. Maybe I can learn them by singing along with this wonderful recording.
