Beautiful Tie-Knot Baby Top With Skirt Cutting and Stitching | DIY Baby Trendy Top With Skirt
Hey everyone! Welcome back to my channel. Today, I’m going to show you how to make an adorable baby tie-knot top with a matching skirt. This is a super cute and easy project, perfect for beginners. Let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
• Fabric (cotton or any soft fabric)
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Pins
• Sewing machine
• Thread
• Elastic (for the skirt waistband)
• Chalk or fabric marker
Step 1: Measuring and Cutting the Fabric
For the Top:
1. Measure your baby’s chest and add 2 inches for ease and seams.
2. Cut two rectangles of fabric: Width = chest measurement + 2 inches, Length = desired top length + 2 inches.
3. For the tie-knots, cut four strips: Length = 10 inches, Width = 2 inches.
For the Skirt:
1. Measure the waist and add 1 inch for the seam.
2. Cut a rectangle: Width = waist measurement x 1.5 (for gathers), Length = desired skirt length + 2 inches.
3. Cut a strip for the waistband: Length = waist measurement + 1 inch, Width = 3 inches.
Step 2: Sewing the Top
1. Take the two rectangles and place them right sides together.
2. Sew the side seams, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
3. Hem the bottom edge by folding it up twice (1/4 inch each fold) and sewing it.
4. For the straps, fold each strip in half lengthwise, sew along the edge, and turn them right side out.
5. Attach the straps to the top edges, tying them into knots for adjustable lengths.
Step 3: Sewing the Skirt
1. Hem the bottom of the skirt by folding up the edge twice (1/4 inch each fold) and sewing.
2. Sew the side seam of the skirt with a 1/2 inch seam allowance.
3. Gather the top edge of the skirt by sewing a loose basting stitch and pulling the thread to create gathers.
4. Sew the gathered edge to the waistband strip, right sides together.
5. Fold the waistband in half over the gathered edge and sew, leaving a small opening to insert the elastic.
6. Insert the elastic through the waistband, stitch the ends of the elastic together, and close the opening.
Final Touches:
1. Iron all the seams for a neat finish.
2. Try the outfit on your baby and adjust the tie-knots for the perfect fit.
