Such a great song! Have always loved Cat Stevens' music. Great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his "Tea For The Tillerman" (1970). The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Matthew & Son", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "Peace Train", "Morning Has Broken" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
I saw him sing this in 2016 at the Beacon theater in NYC. First time he performed in 40 years. You could hear a pin drop. I was 16 when the album Tea For the Tillerman came out. Part of my life's soundtrack. This is 53 years old!!!

Hi Sarah, the way you review this era of music brings back fond memories. My parents were happy together for 50 years and raised 5 kids. As a teenager i thought my dad was out of touch with my world but as i matured and found my way in life i now realised that he was right all along. He passed away 15 years ago and i still miss him. Sometimes you take your parents foregranted and you don't tell them how much you loved and appreciated their unconditional love. The emotion in Cat's voice hits the nail on the head and brings me sadness and great joy thinking about my Dad.
Great reaction Sarah, as always. This song captured what us young "hippies" referred to as "the generation gap" back in the late 60s to early 70s... Among other things, we were rejecting the capitalist materialism, wars, & racism/sexism that we saw in our world. And our folks were telling us to calm down and enjoy the life that they had "given" to us in the post-WW II era. We responded by saying "No! We want a better world!!! " It was a time of both turmoil and desperate hope.
He was great. His tune Wild World was recorded by the great Jimmy Cliff before his own version. Peace Train is also a great tune by him. And many others.
He has such a beautiful voice and writes wonderful songs He had Glastonbury spellbound this year. He couldn't understand why so many people came to see "an old man sing" Its because he is a genius
Ahhhh… Cat Stevens. Beautiful, meaningful and soulful. He was a particular favorite of mine during my teenage years. I could listen to his beautiful, growly voice for hours. The lyrics and acoustic guitar… I can listen forever. Thanks Sarah ❤🙏🏼
*This song is 54 years old.* Except for the fact that back then it seems there were many more parent-child (not just father-son) abrasions as children grow up and begin making their own decisions, it's aged beautifully. --- > I was 12 when this song came out in 1970 on the Tea for the Tillerman album. Pretty much everyone everywhere bought it as soon as it appeared in the stores. (This was WAY before the internet.) I still know all the words to almost every song he put out. That's the staying power of meaningful songs, right there. ❀ -- -- > I had really great, understanding, supportive parents back in the day, and we still found generational stuff difficult at times. -- -- -- > My own children are 35 and 27; and despite everything I know, and how I wanted to be to/for them, and all my better intentions, I still found myself on the other side of these kinds of interactions a time or two. The most important thing is to listen to each other - to really *hear* each other. But, sometimes, both sides hurt. 🌻

I love, love, love Cat Stevens! One of my favorite movies is Harold and Maude-the whole sound track is Cat Stevens songs. (If you haven’t seen it, it is quirky “comedy” about an 18 (ish) young man who falls in love with a free spirited 80 year old woman)
