I'm so happy to be alive and to witness the beauty of The Beatles in my life. I am almost 59 years old and I can still remember their music since I was 5. 4 Brilliant Artist. 1 Absolutely Amazing Band. Legends.

The song has a melancholy/wistful feel about it. A couple of things - John's last words to Paul were "I hope you think of me now and then my old friend". When Paul phoned Olivia Harrison, George's widow, to check that she would be ok with them working on this record, she was looking at a clock/art piece that George had bought, with the words Now and Then on it. It just feels like it was destiny. And what a beautiful way to finally pull down the curtain on, IMO, the best band ever

I came across a quote from Paul about visiting George when he was gravely ill. He spent time with George that day holding his hand for hours. I can only imagine all of the memories that came flooding back as they were making this last song.

I was six years old when I gathered around the tv with my family to watch them appear on The Ed Sullivan Show. We thought they were wearing wigs because crew cuts were in style at the time. I was in my early 20's when John was murdered and I cried at the thought of his kids and the Beatles separated in another way. So glad they were able to make peace before death. I will be a basket case when the other two are gone because they are the soundtrack to my ENTIRE life. I have cried every single time I hear this song. It is tears for so many things lost. Family members, friends, the way the world was so different in my early youth and how I wish for that simplicity and respect now. Paul to me was the most talented all around, but the magic created by the coming together of them all cannot be replaced or duplicated. I remember reading decades ago that one reason they were so successful was because it was unheard of to have ALL FOUR members of a band as FRONTMEN. Nobody was in the shadows. They could have all been lead (and were) with any group, but now you had FOUR Leads.

You're right about how the lyrics take on a new meaning from what they were originally written as. For me, especially that lyric "And if I make it through, it's all because of you". Because of Yoko, Paul, George, Ringo, Giles Martin, Peter Jackson and everyone else involved, John and his song did indeed "make it through"!

I'm 58 & one of my earliest childhood memories was of the Beatles breaking up in 1970. I just remember seeing the newspapers & magazine covers & not really understanding the impact of it all. Fast forward 10 years & I'm the biggest Beatles fan & coincidently I remember feeling the sadness when John was killed & knowing the impact that had on the Beatles never getting back together again. We lived in hope until then. Now we love seeing the joy that Beatles music brings to young people like yourself.

I was one of the fortunate individuals who grew up with the entire Beatles phenomenon. When their film "A Hard Day's Night" came out, my brother and I (just a couple of young kids) went to see it at our local small-town theatre. When it ended, no ushers came in to "usher us out," so we sat through it again (and possibly even a third time). Those who have seen the film will notice that the ending of the "Now and Then" video, where the Beatles are standing and bowing in front of a "Beatles" sign, is from the film "A Hard Day's Night." Great reaction, Brandy!

Brandy, beautiful with a beautiful smile. I was born after their breakup, but thanks to my late father, I grew up listening to them. When Real Love and Free As A Bird came out in the 90s, I was excited and happy. As I got older, qi never expected to hear a NEW Beatles song to be released. When I heard this song was coming out a few months ago, I was really excited, anticipating it. It couldnt be released soon enough. When I first heard it, I had a tear in my eye, knowing they said this was the last new Beatles song ever. It was emotional a bit. But when the video released, it blew my mind. Seeing John and George back with Paul and Ringo onscreen, it hit me a lot harder. I cried the first time seeing it. It was like saying goodbye to them, plus to my late dad. I still tear uo when I watch the video. The memories come flooding back. Its beautiful.

I was 8 when The Beatles "broke" in the USA. So, really, my entire memory of living is filled with Beatles music. I was dubious at first, but I believe, after hearing and seeing "Now and Then" I reacted just as your dad.

I was working a 3 to 11 shift , got home hoping to catch some of the Monday night football game, sit down, and Howard Cosell made the announcement that John Lennon had been shot. It was one of those moment that just burns into your memory, I was 23.

Sad Note: Violist Caroline Buckman died of cancer before she could find out she had contributed to the Fab Four's final recording "Now and Then". Recorded May 1 2022, passed away March 5, 2023. Friends and family said she would have been ecstatic had she known.

Way back in 1980, I was the manager of a rock'n'roll radio station in a mid-sized western U.S. city. Late on the evening of December 8, I received a phone call at home from the DJ who was working our 7pm to midnight shift. He told me that, according to the Associated Press, John Lennon had been shot and killed in New York City. He also said that after the news was announced on our station, he’d begun playing nothing but Beatles songs, and asked me if that was okay. Naturally, I assured him that was a very good idea, and I asked him to tell the overnight DJ coming on at midnight to do the same thing, and that he should then pass it along to the morning drive DJ, who would take over at 5am. After hanging up the phone, I turned on the TV and watched whatever news there was about the tragedy, until finally going to bed around midnight. I think I was sort of in shock that night, not quite able to accept or process or really feel the hurt that was hovering inside. My clock radio awoke me around 6:00 the next morning, and I listened to our station for a minute or two to make sure we were still playing nothing but Beatles music or John Lennon solo material, which we were. I showered and shaved and had breakfast, and maybe an hour later I was in my car driving to work. That’s when it happened. Coming out of a news break, I heard a song start playing on the radio: 🎶“So this is Christmas, and what have you done?"🎶 Well, that did it for me. The enormity of our great loss truly struck home. I began sobbing and had to pull the car over to the side of the road and wait for a few minutes until I could collect myself. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has something personal to say about the meaning of "Now and Then" or the pain of losing John. But I decided I’d like to share my little story with you today. Peace.✌
