Thimble songs are short songs you can easily learn and carry with you. Like a lucky stone, or that perfect fortune cookie message you saved once, they remind us of things that need remembering.
This song was inspired by the Irish mystic, John O'Dononhue, who described beauty as the hidden, secret true nature of things, visible to any of us when we cultivate the eyes to see it. In his words:
"The graced eye can glimpse beauty anywhere, for beauty does not reserve itself for special elite moments or instances; it does not wait for perfection but is present already secretly in everything. When we beautify our gaze, the grace of hidden beauty becomes our joy and our sanctuary." - John O'Donohue
I also want to acknowledge the Dine (Navajo) people, who also honor beauty as something that is about much more than surface appearances. I call to mind, with respect and reverence, the words to a Navajo prayer - "with beauty before me, may I walk."
