I remember for one show I was in our dress rehearsal got cancelled so when me and my friends took off a set piece we apparently weren’t supposed to take off our directors got really mad. We had always taken it off before then and it was fine
For future actors out there: When something like Cogsworth's pants 👖 happens, you can either play it off humorously "Oh, there they go again - like clockwork." Or, if it really hampers your ability to move, find some way to exit the stage and then re-enter. 😎
Thank you so much for the suggestion. If you watch the actual video of the play, these actor were fully trained and masters when it came to the unexpected. This was a tech rehearsal and not an actual performance. It was a late evening and we were all a little giddy. It was awesome to allow the 'what could happens" happen and get all our sillies out. Rest assured you don't put on a production of this level without having competent actors.
The bit with Cogsworth’s pants kind of reminds me of a community theater production of Seussical I was in. For the cadets in the military academy number, we’d bought these cheap khaki shorts for all of them to wear, and every single show, someone’s shorts would fall down. (They were all wearing black unitards underneath, so they were completely covered, and I’m pretty sure the audience didn’t notice.)
I have done theater in high school well enough to know, be ready for the unexpected. If a mic PAC falls, I would pick how Lumiere dealt with the situation in this video. The front door is locked, use the side exit. As for the pants they should have a draw string as a belt to hold them up.
Ben Collins I’ve had a mic pack fall off during a music number. Luckily I was about to walk off stage as it happened, but I had to drag it around by the cord until then. I put it back on as soon as I was off
That's what theater life is about, that's the best way you handled it. I haven't had to wear a microphone PAC, except for 1 interview for a news station.
Ben Collins I would definitely just do what I did then. I find it better to act like nothing is wrong on stage. If you act like nothing’s wrong, the audience won’t notice. **side note: I still had my mic clipped on, the mic pack itself had just fallen off and the wire was just dragging it along behind me.** I was lucky in that case that the number wasn’t too fast or active.
ThatCrazyNerdGirl Productions It could've been a disaster if during a dance scene, much less if someone had stepped on it by accident. The advantage of staying in character helped for you keeping it together. Some costume don't allow the actor to bend at the waist, what was your costume like?
