ive traveled to a lot of different climates in the past year and i've noticed this sunscreen is wildly different experience wise depending on the climate. it's best in low to medium humidity. it also works best on its own or with a slightly astringent/exfoliating toner under it. when it's good, it's great it looks fantastic it makes my skin healthier and feels like nothing on the skin, if it's not the best climate for it, it can be a bit too greasy and/or doesn't feel like it ever really dries down

It's so nice to hear a down to earth review of this product. Despite all the glowing reviews, this did not work well for me at all. I found it to be sticky, shiny and I was never able to apply make-up over it as every one I tried made this ball up. Thanks the honest review!

I didn't try the BOJ but it might have a very similar inci to Make P:Rem sun Essence and Round Lab. If yes, they all have Univul-A plus high on the inci and they sometimes sting my eyes, so...

I am glad to hear that I was not the only one that this didn't really work for. I was so sad when this didn't play well with my skin, but I am really enjoying the Abib Sun Essence & the Skin 1004 Hyalu-Cica Sun Serum right now. It is nice to finally find some SPF 50 sunscreens that don't hurt or weigh down my skin!

I wear the isntree watery gel whenever the uv index is high and recently I've noticed that my face gets really shiny when I wear it. Does the Beauty of Joseon one have less shine than Isntree? I mostly judge the face sunscreens based of how they look after one hour and not how they look straight from application... Isntree looks like my face is dripping wet after I've lightly done some exercising like riding a bike🤭

@@noora7773 In my opinion Sun Relief is much less shiny!!! I have normal to dry skin, 53 years of age. I'm busy in competitive Sport. Always changes of Temperatures (ice rink = cold, outside summer)... never had a problem with Sun Relief.

I live in a hot humid climate I wear this and was continuously reapplying after every 2 hours but still got severe tanning. It's good as daily sunscreen when you are not going out.

This has become my favorite sunscreen!!! I use it almost everyday to go to work. I love how it works over the illiyoon ATO Ceramide Concentrate Cream and under makeup. I have dry, mature skin and this doesn't dry out my skin, yet it's not dewy. I apply two coats, I get a nice glow and it doesn't burn my eyes. Thanks for all you hard work!!! 💖💖💖

It’s not as amazing as people claim it is 😒 Summer in my country is incredibly humid and this was too greasy to wear on a hot day. In fact, it would instantly start melting down my face. And while people say it doesn’t sting your eyes, it did sting mine! A lot less than some other sunscreens, but the sting was there. Also, if after 2-4 hours you re-apply it, there is an instant white cast (even with lighter skin shades). I will give it a try in the winter when i’m not sweating. This is a lot better and a lot more affordable than most sunscreens, but it’s not the best. I am still testing it out but it *might* be irritating my skin (not a 100% sure yet). Update: 09/28/2022 I used this sunscreen in cold/dry weather and it works really well. Spreads easy on skin, doesn’t melt away (and as a result doesn’t sting my eyes), sinks into skin in a matter of seconds, doesn’t appear greasy or oily. Excellent for cold climate. NOT recommended for humid weather.

@@mahzabindyuti8311 I haven’t found the perfect one 😭 I found the La Roche Posay mineral sunscreen to be very sturdy (it is very sweat proof and doesn’t cause eye stinging). However, it does have a significant white cast, especially with reapplication and is quite pricey.

4 filters is not bad. Bioderma, Avene and more French brands use 4 filters in their strongest sunscreens. By the way I recommend for summer the new Avene fragrance free fluid (with Triasorb). It gives the best protection from all of the ones I’ve tried, and I’m experiencing insane Tel Aviv summer. It does shorten makeup wear time though :/

The thing with this sunscreen that I’ve noticed it is my favorite BUT, I run my blow dryer or my car AC on my face for a couple minutes especially when it’s humid after I apply this or if I’m driving otherwise it keeps looking too shiny all day. I have no idea why but running by cold blow dryer on my face makes this dry down without looking so shiny, or I’ll put my face on my AC in my car while I’m driving am I the only one that does this? Yes? That’s what I thought lol but it works great! Especially on super humid days. Also I can reapply this a dozen times without issue. I do my entire skincare then apply this then the blow dryer or air conditioner and it will set it super well I promise try it! Lol

This sunscreen is kind of like a good moisturiser with SPF. Feels great, but melts straight off your face in the summer. It's a 'European winter' sunscreen.

I love this, it's my daily sunscreen. I live in Australia though so will use a stronger water resistant sunscreen in summer but this is great for the rest of the year and for days you are spending a fair amount of time inside.

YES to a video about best sunscreens to reapply during the day!! There are so many that seem fine upon initial application but reapplying is not fun. Definitely agree with you about that with the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen! Its a fine sunscreen, but is it a holy grail? No. Not for me...

This one is a favorite for winter. I tried it out this summer but prefer my other favorites, Isntree WSG and Skin1004, for the heat and humidity here. I also choose different sunscreens for reapplication. And wow, I got the Virginia Slims brand on first guess - so happy the marketing did not entice me to smoke!

Hi Sarah I had a horrible reaction to this one on patch testing. I can use chemical filters in some sunscreens, although not on an everyday basis on my rosacea/eczema prone skin. This leads me to believe it isn't the filters themselves that caused the immediate redness/itch/rash, but something else in the formula itself. I know I'm in the minority, but it was an immediate no for me and I passed it along to a friend with less sensitive skin. Best wishes.

@@Jen-if2it Thanks I tried the canmake and had to use it as a hand spf - my face hated it lol. My skin is so reactive and the vast majority of spf's cause an issue. The canmake wasn't as bad as the BofJ one though, as it was fine on hands/body. The BofJ was a no everywhere and was given away. Most of the hyped spf's everyone else loves, my face hates.

@@Quartza_ I advise using it if you can on days you’re outside (especially in the Summer). A purely mineral spf may work better for you and perhaps an alcohol free spf. I think the Paula’s choice calm spf is pretty good for very sensitive skin and this is the one I use during a rosacea flare. I use ultrasun normally which is a hybrid spf. It’s worth keeping trying to find something that works. The US chemical filters are much more irritating than some of the newer filters available elsewhere in the world. It is trial and error finding something that works, but it’s worth doing. Best wishes

From what I could read from clinical trials, It's been known that there's been allergic reactions to sunscreens containing Tinosorb M. Not because of the filter itself, but because it relies on the use of Decyl Glucoside to suspend the insoluble particle in the formula similar to how Zinc/Titanium would. Some people seem to react to the decyl glucoside but it doesn't appear very common and most of what I could find were just case studies.

Thanks for saying something about the overuse/pushing of Botox. It’s horrible that the industry tries to make teenagers think they need regular Botox injections! I cannot believe it when I see some dermatologists actually recommending “preventative” Botox started as teens! I genuinely think it’s just to sell more units which is gross. There is a bigger risk with Botox and injections than people would lead you to think. It can migrate, cause paralysis, many things can go wrong even if you go to a doctor and not a med spa. There are people who have gotten Botox injections for years and one time something goes wrong. Remember what Botox actually is. It is a powerful neurotoxin and if something does go wrong you can have serious damage.

Yes, I believe the cigarette commercial you are referring to was for Virginia Slims cigarettes. I think that was a 60’s commercial. If you look up videos for 60’s commercials on RU-vid, they have some to watch. I was born in 1963, so for me it’s just nostalgic to watch those.😉

That's what happen to me as soon as I put it on I think it's an ingredient not the sunscreen considering I barely went outside and I really don't burn. Oh man I love this! I’ve just ordered two more. I actually don’t use a primer with it because it just turns into mush and I use a gel cream with it. The byoma one I love! Some people don’t don’t even wear any moisturiser with it. It did burn a bit the first few times but tbh that’s because I never use to wear spf daily! 😳😬😂 I use the AHC sunscreen stick to reapply ❤️

I love this sunscreen personally and it has one of the lightest and most comfortable textures. I think it’s one of the few that sinks in fully when applying the correct amount to get the full SPF. Understandably you wouldn’t reapply it over makeup as it will be messy like most sunscreens but reapplication on bare face has been effortless, if your skin is a bit oily / shiny I’d just quickly blot and reapply. My skin has been peeling like crazy due to use of tretinoin and still the sunscreen doesn’t look weird when I apply it even if I notice peeling later in the day. A note on usage of alcohol in organic / chemical sunscreen - apart from helping with absorption, it acts as a filter stabiliser so it’s quite important for some formulas that AD is there.

Sunscreens to reapply would be a great vid. I see the shisedo stick going viral but it has fragrance. I don't use anything with fragrance no exceptions so that's a pass for me. I bought the Neutrogena ultra sheer stick n will try re applying today n this weekend but don't have high hopes b/ when I swatched it, there was noticeable white cast and that on top of makeup will make me look like a ghost I'm afraid

That PA++++ meaning "12 or above" is not correct. It's 16 or above. Which means that an Asian sunscreen can offer a high UV-A protection but their rating system just isn't as informative about it for the consumers. Some companies want to tell how much exactly their UV-A protection is, but some don't, and that's the same in European sunscreens too! It's just that in Europe the UV-A protection must be at least 1/3 of what the UV-B factor in the label is. I think you have to be a bit more precise in fact checking when you go saying that some sunscreens aren't as reliable, because these kind of mistakes take away some of the credibility from the review. I think you generally try to be very informative and science based, so that's what I'm expecting from your channel and that's exactly the reason why I'm subscribed to you❤ There are a lot of channels that just go with something that's popular (views of what is toxic or harmful) and share it to their audience...luckily that isn't you!

Thank you for your review! The BoJ and Birch Tree sunscreens aren't my favorites. I layer too many skincare products, and these two suncreens do not set on my face without a ton of powder. I'm moving more toward European sunscreens that also perform in water (Vichy Capital and LRP UvMune 400). They contain more alcohol, but they set, and my skin is adjusting.

I wonder what the ppd means exactly? SPF 50 means it will take x amount times for your skin to burn from UVB. But we don't burn from UVA so what does PPD 15, 40... means ??? If anyone knows?

It took me 3 tubes of this sunscreen to realize that something in me was rejecting it. First because it makes the skin on my cheeks burn, whether or not I have small acne breakouts it makes my skin burn for about 15 minutes after applying it. Also, you can't always avoid a certain "veil" of white cast, especially if you have skin like mine that tends to blush/redden from everything (sun, heat, cold and also from getting excited) 😢

Hi Sarah, I actually took this SPF with me on a sun holiday to Croatia late last month. It was mainly my husband who used it ( is hard to get him use SPF 😣 but he knows he has to when in the seaside sun ) and I had no complaints from him 👍He did wear sunglasses and hat most of the time so had extra protection ☺️I used it a couple of times too and not sue if it was just in my had but towards the end of the day my face started getting little itchy and tingly . I did put the Elta MD UV Elements on top but could be the chemical filters which I am not used to that made me little itchy? 🤷‍♀️ I hardly use chemical only SPF nowadays so my skin might no longer be used to it…. PS : cool top on you today 🤩🤗🥰

Can you please do a review of all your fav European sunscreens esp. Ones with super high protection. I no longer trust Korean sunscreens either till they fix the loopholes

Have you tried the Vegreen 730 Nature Mucin Serum? I've read it's at the level of the Cosrx snail serum... reading good things about that and their moisturizer

I gave up on chemical sunscreen. Wish I could use it. Burns eyes and skin.

Thank god I was slow and it was sold out when I was about to order this. Because I got a tester just for the hype only to realize it's not for my skin. It's okay, but I just still don't get the hype. This brand did nothing good for me in general, especially the gel cleanser. Right after starting to use them I had some deep acne. I'll keep using them just to make sure, but it's a bummer because I wanted to love them really. Hopefully no one experienced this other than me 🥺

Is this mineral, chemical or hybrid? I don’t know the K market ingredients so I can’t tell. I don’t know why brand this won’t make PETA’s Cruelty Free List considering Cruelty Free Kitty says it meets all the criteria but there’s usually a reason if it doesn’t.

BOJ did release the same spf end of 2020 I bought it and then every retailer pulled it out - the new one is so much better but I never used the 2020 one on my face really (stylevana never refunded me or told me why it was pulled)

A bit odd comment about expiry date..🤔 I have been using Korean beauty products for what it seems like forever, but yet to come across a product (manufactured in Korea) without expiry or manufacture date (or both) I believe it's mandatory according to their cosmetics regulations 😊

@@NOBSBeauty You are right, Japanese cosmetics is difficult to decode.. BTW, funny enough my fave sunscreen at the moment La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMUNE in cream version, which is French, but it's absolutely brilliant.. At first thought it's not as cosmetically elegant as Korean/Japanese ones as it came across a bit thick for my liking at first, but actually it soon became my number one I am reaching for on most days 😊

So it's kind of drying? Denatured alcohol in it? I can't do denatured alcohol. It will destroy my face. This will be a pass. I already have dry/dehydrated, very sensitive and mild rosacea skin. I'm so glad I haven't bought this.

It's absolutly not drying... and no alcohol! It gives my skin a well hydrated feeling all day long... and i have mild rosacea too!

Yes, no alcohol denat, also melts my face off! No issues with this sunscreen.
