EDITOR'S NOTE: It took 10 minutes from first bite until the tree was separated from the stump. I filmed the whole thing. If you want to watch it unedited and uninterrupted here is the link: • Beaver chews through a... This video shows a beaver doing what she does best, which is bringing down trees. I was lucky enough to get up close for the footage so we get a close look at the process. Really fascinating to see these fascinating creatures at work.

It is really amazing to watch how the beaver assesses the situation when realised that the tree is to large and unwieldy to drag away. In only a few seconds he/she checks out the trunk, removes some small branches that were entangled and decides to chew off a smaller portion of the whole tree. This beaver must be quite experienced.

That is so cute how the beaver cowers under the branch when it hears someone whispering, they’re so cautious. and that close up on its teeth too, wow

Hi from the UK! Excellent video and I loved that there was good sound too. They are amazing creatures. There are some that have been reintroduced here after they were hunted to extinction in the 1600s. Sites were kept very secret to allow them to get established. One area that frequently flooded has benefited from them ++ as their dams have reduced flooding considerably. You're so right that the one you filmed is much bolder than they usually are!

Even if their teeth are tough, they must grow very fast to compensate for the wear.

Is it legal to have beavers as pets? I can use him in some of my woodworking projects. His cut is so clean and faster than some of my saws.

its amazing how it just allowed you to film it, most wild animals are afraid of people.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if he was a beaver?

I came here from the other video because I was curious to see if there was a reason that beaver let you get so close. In the other video we can hear you whispering to someone, and I thought maybe you were under an invisibility cloak or something. But I see from these comments these beavers are more used to humans.

Ok, this is weird. Your other video of the tail end of this event has 2 million views, and this one has 300, even though it's linked from there. So practically no one was interested enough to come watch this one. Huh!?

The beavers at Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary continuously cause major flooding due to their nature. It’s a catch 22; we want them to “beaver away” , yet they destroy whilst doing so. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@mikesvideosofbeavers Thanks for the reply! I'm still stunned by you being able to get so close and by how industrious but also considered and measured the beaver was. Mind you, here in suburban Sydney, I regularly feed butcher birds and magpies but recently a kookaburra showed up for the very first time and it gently took food from my fingers! The magpies recognize me and swoop in to be fed - but not if it's my husband at the kitchen window. Birds and beavers may be wild but they're NOT stupid! I think we greatly underestimate their intelligence and adaptability! Thanks again Mike for the reply - I've learned something new!! Cheers.

Imagine its mouth after that effort, full of razor sharp wood shavings and blade sharp splinters. How can they tolerate it ?! And in their stomach and throat as well. Their innards must be made of steel and coarse leather! 😂 Amazing creatures.

@@zacharykanebronson2549 No, they'll destroy ecosystems as easily as they create them just as we do. Beaver dams can kill hundreds of fish by draining the water from a locale and also take away drinking water/good soil if they are built in the wrong locations.

This beaver is obviously quite tame compared to most, but be weary of landed beavers. They are very vulnerable on land and therefore may feel cornered and attack you if you approach them.
