So Safety first? this guy cant stand up if he falls? he cant swim? He has no hearing or face protection. No saw pants. Its like hey cooter we safe I have bandaids.
With a power saw you have to use an old wornout chain. Make two cuts about 18" apart so you can use the potato fork easily. Watch closely for rocks because the beavers ballast the light fluffy twigs with mud and stones. Try your best to miss the stones. You will probably have to throw the chain away after one dam. But there will always be stones as it is the lowest terrain down in the creek. You can easily go five ft down in a cut like this. If you don't widen the cut the beavers will fill it back in one night.
:) I only had the harness on because I wasn't sure how fast the water would come out of the hole I cut....not quite what I expected....also, even though I am grown...my dad was off camera and he was very upset I was taking the small risk I was. Sometimes when dad is watching, we have to put safety a little higher than 3rd.
Here's something I never see anybody do. Bring a twelve volt winch, car battery, grapple and enough rope and cable to get the job done. One person handles the grapple and the other operates the winch. Does it get any simpler than that?
It's a sad comment on our species that humans find it fun to destroy things and the more valuable and more effort it took to make or build, the greater their delight. Beaver ponds are so incredibly valuable and getting more so as climate change begins to bite that this is just wanton destruction and cutting off your nose to spite your face. mtkass.blogspot.com/2007/07/canadian-beaver-pest-or-benefactor.html
