Beavers are back at Loch Lomond! A family of seven animals have been released at RSPB Scotland's Loch Lomond nature reserve. This film gives a unique insight into the work that went on behind the scenes to bring these ecological engineers to the site.
RSPB Scotland would like to thank all the volunteers and staff who worked so hard to bring beavers back to Loch Lomond.
This work would not have been possible without the support of partners including NatureScot, the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority, The Beaver Trust and the Five Sisters Zoo.

I guess the main threat to the beavers are humans - particularly hunters and water polluters. So if the rangers, water companies, police and volunteers are involved the outlook is good! RSPB have plenty of experience in providing and organising education and policing, so I am optimistic. What next? The large tortoiseshell butterfly or the lynx?

Having helped remove their dams in Canada, are you sure you know what is going to happen ten years from now?

Better protect them well , what part of your country is the release ? I thought some people don't like having them as they create big lakes and problems to maybe their life style or big lands etc. ?

This example of remediation shows how complicated and costly to make small repairs. The impact of Humans globally is orders of magnitude higher and the cost will be in the trillions to repair the last 150 years of excessive Human activity. Too bad we couldn't look ahead 80 years ago and start to make the changes much more slowly and more efficiently way before we got ourselves painted into the proverbial corner. But who has that kind of forethought? It takes a society decades just to move from industrial to technological, and some now are jumping over the industrial directly to the technological. Once we get that far, then we can see how bad the industrial ages were on the environment.
