BECCLES FC RESERVES 1 WOODBRIDGE TOWN RESERVES 2 (HT 1-0)
Jake Hughes scored twice in the second half as the Reserves fought back superbly to lift the Suffolk Senior Reserves Cup for Season 2019/20 at Crown Meadow, Lowestoft. 16 year old keeper Jack Robinson again impressed with some important saves after the team were a goal down at the break after being the better side.
Nathan Woods' shot from an acute angle was well parried for a corner by Robinson after 3 minutes and after 6 minutes Hayden Rayfield who made his first team debut at the weekend beat 3 Beccles defenders after a mazy run but was robbed by a well organised defence. Ray Masters' shot for Beccles hit the bar after 12 minutes and after 17 minutes the Woodpeckers hit the bar at the other end. Woodpeckers left back Lamon Haynes-Sparkes defended superbly after 27 minutes with a good defensive header. Joe Allum's excellent header hit the post after 29 minutes and the same player cleared well after a quick break from Beccles at the other end of the pitch. Hughes' effort on the half hour went inches wide of the post a minute later for the Woodpeckers but after 40 minutes Beccles opened the scoring with Lee Squires header to give Robinson no chance.
The Woodpeckers equalised after only 27 seconds of the second half after Dan Mace's accurate cross from the right wing, Hughes finished expertly to make it 1-1. Rayfield's excellent through ball after 52 minutes just failed to find an attacker and Robinson cleared well after a dangerous Beccles attack after 56 minutes and Captain Tyler Howell's effort went over the bar after 57 minutes. Hughes made it 2-1 with an unstoppable finish past Beccles keeper Wickham after 59 minutes and a minute later Woods' deflected Free Kick was well held by Robinson. Josh Allum headed off the line to keep the score at 2-1 after 75 minutes and for Beccles, Substitute Finley Boreham's effort was parried by Robinson and after a goalmouth scramble the Woodpeckers defence cleared well. Harry Archer's shot tested Wickham after 81 minutes and in the last seconds Robinson held well under pressure as Woodbridge held out for a deserved win. Congratulations to Aren Howell and his coaching team and a superb team effort from 1 to 17.
