I read this way, Kate dated Josh, who was an egotistical person who thought he knew Kate, even blamed Castle for what happened to her. Demming pushed for a relationship too quickly. Castle was the right guy for Kate, they had tension between them, always there for her when she needed him the most. Legit has almost died for her, yet Demming and Josh haven't stepped up to the plate to save her life by giving themselves up. However, she needed time to gather herself, she wasn't ready, Castle waited, that's what she needed. I could start to see the love between them grow by season 3, season 4 was the biggest tease and waiting list for the both of them. This is why it worked out for them, they waited until they were ready.

IMO Demming was quite OK - probably the best match for Kate if Castle wasn't around (compared with Sorenson, Josh, that one-night-stand fireman and that British cop Colin Hunt, and of course that smelly punk she dated for seven months in her youth during her rebel child phase :D). Although, both Beckett and Demming being cops doesn't help much, from that point of view Josh would be the best.

@bucky it's because she knows with the other guys she can push them away. With Castle he knows her and she knows she can't push him away and that when she gets into a relationship with him it'll be real and she's scared of that.
@@bucky8824it’s because she knows that Castle is the one for her and what she feels for him is real, unlike what she had with her other partners. She was scared ultimately of losing him and that she knew she had to open herself up to him fully and she didn’t feel ready to do that. And to add on to what the one guy said about the other guys she’s dated, she deep down knew that none of them were the one. It’s even mentioned by a few people in the show, Lanie being one of them, early on that Beckett dates all these people she knows she wint ever truly be in love with and has categorically been denying herself happiness. Hell, when we see season 1 Kate, it’s shown that Kate really lived her life through work and her past time was sitting at home, reading Richard Castle books.
Can’t stand these guys. I know how deep that hurts whenever a man takes the woman you love most. Very heartbreaking for Castle. It’s like in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire whenever Harry asks Cho for the Ball but too late because Cedric took her from him and Viktor took Hermione from Ron!
The season 2 that beckett rubbed it in castle's face that she and demming are sharing a cab, meaning they are having sex . Castle was seriously hurt and kate deserved the final punishment she got

Josh was the one that broke up with Beckett, unlike with demming and Sorinson, josh broke up with her. The value she placed on herself in previous seasons , that value diminished significantly in season 4. The only way that happens is if a successful doctor like josh breaks up with her. She literally pushed castle away to continue her relationship with josh, she had no intention of calling him back, she lied to him and pretended that she didn't hear his confession and she told him to go away and that she will call him. She lied. She ended their partnership that day in favour of josh, something happened during her recovery . Something that led to josh breaking up with her. So when she returned , she was aggressively marking her territory against any woman that came close to castle because she knew there was a chance that she might lose him after everything she did. She never planned on telling him the truth because it would seem obvious that she made castle a 2nd choice to josh . So her plan was get close to castle so that he will confess his feelings to her again . But then it backfired
