i remember my first time bartending i was not nearly as ready as i thought i was. i moved fast enough to not have people yelling profanities, but i was on the edge of it. if i knew at the time how to properly mutlitask life woulda been easier

I start a bartending job in 2 days. Going from selling cell phones. Super nervous. This video is teaching me more than anything I've seen yet. This is how my brain learns! Seriously learning a lot. I see how a simpler drink ges more flair to the mix and the way the bartenders move around each other is nearly ballet! I'm having trouble timing the pour count though. I have heard a 1 oz. pour is quick 4-count but I have no clue, that's why I'm here. Thank you!

I just got hired as a bartender at a high volume place in a major city straight out of serving at another restaurant, went to bar school, I start in two weeks. I'm also part of the initial opening staff of the place altogether. Hopefully my newness gets lost in the shuffle of opening a new operation. I'm grateful I was given a chance. I was a barista for 4 years prior so I'm used to the pace but anxious about memorization of cocktails. I have a few basics down memorized like martinis and simple one liquor drinks but working on the more complicated ones. Our menu has complicated cocktails with like 7-10 ingredients each. I'm afraid to mess up especially since I'm so new to the trade. Thank you for these videos

Cash register is to the left of the screen, aecollector. That's where you see us standing there for bits at a time as we ring in drinks on the POS system. Many of them pay with a credit card though, so you'll see us either start a tab or check them out with a receipt. At our bar only about 20% actually pay with cash.

Am I the only one thinking a proper bar-pour is a four-count, which should equate to 2oz? Maybe things have changed over the decades I guess. Also, the Manhattan is made with 2oz rye (or bourbon, but rye is more appropriate), 1oz (not 0.5oz) sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes bitter. That's "2-1-2" as a recipe, and "2-1-2" is the area code of Manhattan, NY.

Hey Charles, the great news is that there are so many different styles of bars out there that you can definitely find one that has a slower pace at first (plus those will be easier to get hired at) and after you gain some experience and confidence, you can move on to a busier place. It just takes a few shifts and you'll be good to go. I promise.

When do you need to roll for making a drink?
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman 2 месяца назад
Rolling is usually for properly mixing all the ingredient of a cocktail when you don't want to shake it. Fro example, a Mai Tai has quite a few ingredients and after you build it over ice (pour all the ingredients in), before you add the dark rum floater, you would pour everything into a shaker and then back into the glass to properly mix the ingredients, and then add the floater. You could shake and strain first as well.

@DaveAllredTheRealBarman
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman 5 лет назад
Hi Adrian, you wouldn't possibly know simply by watching the video where those two Tanqueray and tonics are going. Two separate guests could have ordered them, or a ticket could have printed up in the well from a server. When you work together for awhile with other bartenders, you gain a synergy and system that is quite seamless so you wouldn't necessarily see in a video them communicating verbally about two drinks that were ordered. They are very adept at what they are doing. Hope that helps.

Apply for bar backing positions. You'll work alongside the bartenders and get to know the bar. Most of the time, on slow nights, they'll happily train you. You can take your time learning it or jumping into it very quickly. I've known some bar backs who spent only 6 months as a bar back then jumped to bartending. Personally, I like bar backing more, but got pushed into bartending. Left it for a bit then went back and I like bartending.

@DaveAllredTheRealBarman 3 года назад
Hi China, not to be self-promoting, but I do believe my course is the best online course around. And to answer your other question, no, I do not provide a certificate, as they don't mean anything. You can watch my video here on bartending licenses and certificates which will tell you that some states require an alcohol awareness certificate and some don't. You can get one online for about $10, but bartending school certificates hold no weight. Best of luck. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BsD4O7_Qq58.html

Or: sit alone at home, have a fancy longdrink glass, start with some ice even though you don't need it, reverse the 1/3 alc and 2/3 non-alc ratio, add whatever juice you have in your fridge, screw shaking or stirring, just have it. Benefits: You don't have to deal with the loud environment, you don't have to deal with people and you have alcohol. After watching more than just the first minute: Respect for the precision and swiftness. Doing it properly definitely requires a considerable amount of training!

You're exactly right Daniel. Unfortunately you'll find a lot of short cuts happening that shouldn't. Thanks.
