when I read a chapter I forget a lot of it the next day so I have to do a quick revision of the previous chapter everytime and after a few years of this, revising made reading a conscious effort for me instead of fun so I stopped. Now I'm going to start small like you said so I have less to revise

The alchemist is a shitty book. Also, gamifying helps! I personally use Goodreada.
