Become a Graphic Designer in 2021 

I didn’t go to school. Strictly self taught for about 4 months. I’m about to start my new job as a graphic/brand designer at $28 an hour (cdn) Came with sleepless nights of learning and building fake portfolios. But if you work hard enough someone will recognize that. Don’t doubt yourself and definitely don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough.

I would recommend people to go either to school or look for a good mentor BECAUSE of the Portfolio. You can't know what you are doing unless somebody gives you feedback over certain period of time about your work. The feedback is what makes you grow and improves your Portfolio. I think learning on your own is so limited because you have the theory, you have the tools and you know how to use them, but you don't know how to apply all this to a real design work! Same with learning a language. You can learn it by yourself, but then you make a lot of mistakes because nobody told you what to avoid! I went somehow both ways and learning by yourself is so chaotic and you don't want to mess with your reputation from day one.

I started learning graphic design online like a month ago. I really want to be a designer but i do not have the motivation to study on my own. Going to a design school might be the best option for me but I cannot afford it now. I need a study buddy so that we can boost each other 😭

I love graphic design and would do it for the rest of my life. My only fear is looking weird when I get old. My fear is feeling out of style or old in this industry. What do you think about growing old in this profession as a freelancer?

Hi Kelsey. I'm Suzanna. I'm a mandala artist. I love drawing mandalas but I don't know how or where to sell my art. I've tried Etsy but no success. I tried making digital mandala printables, but it seems people don't have much interest in this kind of art. I'm now thinking of becoming an illustrator or a graphic designer...
