I love this video! I'm months away from getting my Bachelors in Data Analysis and have spent lots of my time on the side learning about data engineering and data science. I've built my own simple pipelines, have a solid understanding of data analysis with basic tools like excel and power bi, and a strong familiarity with AI in R, mostly machine learning. I spent some time learning how to learn, and one technique that really will helped me is the Pareto Method or 80/20 rule, where 80% of the value in a topic can be found in 20% of the material. LLM's can very easily help you apply this method to each field in data.

I recall from one of your very early videos that you did DataCamp before doing your Masters, and you stated it did not prepare you very well for your uni courses. Has DataCamp gone through significant improvements since then?
@datanash8200
@datanash8200 Месяц назад
Definitely, I would say it used to encourage an element of passive learning e.g. just skipping through videos and having 'static' hints. But now that you can Q&A the data and get more detailed feedback it's pretty useful and also to get a certification you have to pass the timed exam etc, so there is less incentive for just skipping through video

@@datanash8200 I'm glad you changed your mind about them because I've been seeing their ads around a lot lately. I'm also giving semi-serious consideration to Dave Ebbelaar's (former guest on this channel) Datalumina Mastermind program. I think there's an innate desire for everyone to be their own boss, but the wave of layoffs in the tech sector in 2023-4 just reminded me how there's no such thing as job security when you're working for someone else.

Love this video as I am already on this train of thought. My only point i would like to raise is that we should not forget about Excel. I have just got my first role in data. They said 90% of the role will be using this tool lol.

PLEASE DO NOT POPULARIZE THE TERM "Renaissance Data Scientist" / Full-stack Data Scientist. My managers will start asking us where can we find one. It's just going to make the whole job market go crazy again.

Ive been trying to self teach for the last 12months but ive found it quite difficult. So ive decided to bite the bullet and take a data science degree with Open University. Im going to keep learning Python on the side to compliment it (all whilst working 30-40hrs per week😅) any general advice you could give?

Wait wait. Didn't you say that your sponsor in this video, Data Camp, was a waste of one year of your time to learn Data Science, in one of your earlier videos. I think I kept that in memory and vouched not to waste my time also. Nonetheless good video. I like the 12 week year mindset

@appaYiipYiip
@appaYiipYiip Месяц назад
I'm not a data scientist, but I assume you can become a data professional by working on projects from start to finish. This includes gathering data from sources like social media or online shopping websites, cleaning it, visualizing it, analyzing it, and writing a report on your findings.

I dont see any future for data science/analysis. Everything is being automated through smart DBMS integrated with LLMs. Other small data related tasks can be done by devs themselves. What are your thoughts? I can get into Ivy Leagues for masters in DS or BA but I am not considering that because of this reason.
@byrond2184
@byrond2184 Месяц назад
Running a LLM is expensive so not every company can afford it. Also the data needs to be cleaned and organized before it can go into the LLM so their will always be a need for Data Scientist.
