You are the first UX designer guy on RU-vid that is not trying to make things look faster, more instantenous, more rapidily gratifying, but with patience and determination, with the rethoric of a person that admits that only perseverance and work will bring results, and I respect that. I respect it because there is this trend of presenting content in a fast rythm, a rythm which makes challanges seem easy (but they are not, that's why they are called challanges innit), especially for a corporate/business/ techy job where everybody wants to make things go faster to scroll on TT or sth. Respect and follow.

Hi Tim, I'm about to start my new career transition journey to UX/UI designer. I'm not really sure which direction I want to go to atm but I'll keep studying and figure it out! (Hopefully). Because I do like solving the problems of what people wants and needs but at the same time I want to design UI elements and little interests in coding too. :-) Your video helps me a lot to picture my 2023-24 UX/UI journey. I felt in a rush as I'm 30 and I need to save up money so I've started other full-time ish work. :-/ But I'll take time and do what you said; learning basic design principles, recreating stuff, and building a portfolio, etc. :-) Just wanted to say thanks for great tips!! Hope you have a awesome day.

Tim 💐 thank you for this amazing video. It actually helps me a lot for sticking to my career changing plan, becoming a self-taught designer. I used to work as an ux researcher or sometimes as a PM, but I’ve always wanted to be an ux designer. So, lately started studying by myself fighting for the doubts of uncertainty and feeling impatience at the same time. I have no design degree, so probably I should study from the zero but I come to think that I can do it maybe after watching your video. Thanks 🤍 from the other part of the world

I love Jonathan Patterson portfolio. Problem I have with mine is that I like designing and want it to be similar to Patterson's, but I always kept hearing "show the process, show how you got to that point froms start to finish". This always confused me because I wasn't sure how much to UX research to add or UI so I always did both.
@TimGabe
@TimGabe Год назад
I think you should put weight on the things that shows your skillset in the area you want to work -- UX research and thought process, like I mentioned in the tutorial, is great to highlight if you're looking for a pure UX role. now, on the contrary, if I wanted to hire a person to do only UI work I wouldn't care nearly as much about their thought process. 😃 so in the end, ask yourself: what facets of your design game do you want to show the potential employer/client? make that the main character of the portfolio!

This is dope. I’m currently a designer. I ended up switching over to a bachelor’s in psychology after getting an associates in web design and development because I felt as though I could do the rest on my own. Those considering this track, might consider still getting a degree in something human related along side these things to have a degree to fall back on throughout your design career as well as added knowledge about humans.

I'm truly excited to see this video acknowledging that a traditional design school isn't the only route to become a UI/UX designer in 2023. The 5-step process outlined here is a refreshing approach that emphasizes self-directed learning, leveraging online resources, and hands-on practice. It aligns perfectly with the modern way of learning, which is often more flexible, accessible, and tailored to individual needs. This approach not only saves time and money but also allows aspiring designers to develop practical skills and stay up-to-date with the rapidly evolving field. Kudos to the creators of this video for empowering self-starters on their journey to becoming skilled UI/UX designers!

Hi Tim, I recently came across your page and I find really helpful. I have a Psychology degree but no design qualifications so I always question whether this might hinder my chances of getting a ux/ui design job. During my degree we did touch on visual psychology and I remember finding fascinating. I assumed that this may be of use in the ux/ui design field. DO you think I should highlight my psychology degree as an asset in this case or do you think it isn't as relevant? Thank you 🙂
@TimGabe
@TimGabe 7 месяцев назад
hey!! thank you so much! i definitely think psychology degree will be an interesting addition, but probably not something you want to highlight as the >main< thing in your portfolio if you're looking for a traditional ux designer role if you're more into ux research (and other human-to-human oriented ux roles like that), then i think it makes more sense to highlight

@TimGabe
@TimGabe Год назад
hey Dustin! I think it really depends on what you want to showcase. one project could be enough if it shows the strengths you want to showcase in a very clear way. however, I'd say that more projects generally will make it easier to show what you're capable of 😃

Wow, didn't know Channing Tatum is also an UX expert! So cool that you took a break from all the gay cameos.

Yes there is no need for a design school they are pulling cash from your pocket and sit on a chair teaching you design principles with slides, a checklist followed by random links they name the course “Web Design Pro”

The video and caption title does not make sense xD Besically what it stated is: Become UI/UX designer without school by becoming "self taught". Watching your or other videoes, is not being self taught xD It is exactly the same thing as a school without the defined environment of a school.

i think it'd take a lot of time to get good at design without using other resources than just your own imagination... 😅 resources should be used, but we don't have to go to an "official" school!
