One of the best In the Hanger episodes to date. Col. McSpadden was a phenomenal guest. I hope the two of you get your backseat ride!

They didn't know he was not only a Thunderbird pilot but the commander of the Thunderbirds....Thunderbird 1......because Richard was humble and did not blow his own horn. RIP Col. McSpadden.

Great show! As the son of an AF pilot, I grew up watching the Thunderbird from the time they flew F-100's. Always a great show! I was sort of amused at his comment about the AF selecting the top 10% of the class for fighters. My father was tops in his F-86 class (and expecting to go into fighters) , but at the time General LeMay was upset at always getting the "second best" as bomber pilots, so he ordered all of my father's class into bombers! And that's how he ended up flying B-47's at the time.

That sucks for the guys that worked so hard to be the best fighter students so they could get into flying the fighters of their choosing!!!

So as a 57 year old kid… I guess I should dig my Air Force Academy application out of the 1981 trash can… 😂

This was an awesome episode Dan and Christy, thank you. Also thank you to Richard for sharing this story and information with us. It was very entertaining. Christy, you have definitely made it big time. I saw a AVweb video of Flying Eyes at sun and fun and your picture was in it. Yall are awesome, keep up the great work, and fly safe. 🤘🇺🇸🛩️✈️

Wow really Cool!...grew up an Airforce Brat, saw the ' Birds ' dozens of times. Ended up with my stepbrother in law being lead solo for 2 years ( usually only one year of lead ) begged for a ride in their 2 seater many times! Usually reserved for VIPs so it never happened. Thanks alot Clark! Great episode guys!

Fascinating, superb episode! What a nice, humble, fun guy, the chaps from the Red Arrows are of a similar ilk. The guy that bailed out? My first thought was "he had an angel on his shoulder as that didn't look survivable". Something intervened there, literally thank God. I'm not religious, mildly spiritual, I guess. Thanks for filming and posting👍😊✌️

Funny. I was wondering today while watching the fighters, I wonder what it takes to land a seat in one of those.

I didn't have what it takes to be a Thunderbird pilot but every time I take flight in my MiniMax I pretend I'm one!

@@TakingOff idk if I’ll do a video review. Maybe one day. But OMG I had to come back to this comment. I finally got to fly today using my new flying eyes glasses. They are INSANE! I had no sense of the glasses being on what so ever. The other thing is I was able to spot traffic wayyyy better which I think is because they are not polarized where others I’ve used were. My friend actually said something as to how impressed he was with my ability to spot traffic. I bought the transitional ones where it fades. I can’t say enough good things about them. I just had to come back and comment again. Every pilot should own a pair.

I watched probable cause with Dan. I hope you’re learning from your mistakes. I could say more but I’m not going to. In this small community of aviation you can’t bs people, you will be called out. I hope you get better, I’ve always enjoyed your videos.

Do you know how many times Dan Gryder has lied or blown something completely out of proportion for his own personal glory? His aviation safety stuff is top notch, but do not rely on him as a single source of information for things like this.

I am also curious about the pilots that fly all the old war birds and the a10s. I met a few of them randomly watching the stol demo but didn’t ask about the groups. They are air force groups that do that?

He was Capt. Chris Stricklin, Thunderbird 6. As I understand it, because of the accident, he lost his job as a Thunderbird Pilot, but the AF gave him a second chance and he went on to have a pretty successful flying career, recently retiring as an O-6 (Full Bird Colonel). If you think about it, the man had to have a hell of a resume and skill set to get the Thunderbird job. It would have been nuts for the AF to just dismiss that talent for having one bad day.
