This was my sign to keep at self-taught UX design🙏🏽. And I appreciate that you said we need to know why we want to become a UX designer and not be doing it for the money or because it's trending. Excellent video, Rachel. Thank you!
@@rachelhow HI Rachel I am trying so hard on this journey. please what were your projects or case studies you did when u started out? I have been watching yt tutorials and practicing them. i still feel lost. how did you know what to do next? What websites served you more? When they say "UX Research " i dont fully understand how to implement such. i how did you know you were ready in just 3 months? Was your portfolio having enough to show case? please help. i am confused even though i have been googling and stuff I pray you see my msg on this old video of yours. have a great day
It's definitely not easy to self-taught things you have no idea about, more so if someone wants to switch careers for it. The work you have been doing has been very inspiring and we hope you continue to flourish in the UI/UX scene. We also appreciate these explainer videos and please keep them coming!
I'm a frontend developer with a bit of backend/infra experience as well, but I've realized that I enjoy the process of UX design SO MUCH more. I'm now transitioning into UI/UX - Frontend developer role ;) Pretty excited. Thank you for this video. this helped me figure out where I could get started.
i was at the point of throwing away my notebooks after getting discouraged for not having a college degree and settling. imposter syndrome has struck me hard and this roadmap solidified my belief in myself. I too have only been learning for intensely for a few months and thought it wasn’t enough time to have credibility. Today I officially finished designing and developing my website. I’m so thankful for people like you, Rachel for making this type of knowledge accessible for people in my situation. To anyone on the fence as I have been for the past few months, please please please do not give up. Even small steps every day will add up, keep track of your learning in case you start to doubt yourself so you have something to look back on to realize how far you’ve come. I believe in you and i believe in me and i believe in us!!!
Girlll this is me I feel so discouraged because I don’t have my degree either & I’m struggling to find something I take interest in but I did love UX/UI design. I stopped learning because of imposter syndrome 😭 you are inspiring and I pray you’re successful girl.
I bought the roadmap at a small amount I can afford. I am almost done with my UX internship and I am going to learn more and self-study using your roadmap. Thank you 🥺💕
Hi Rachel! This is the most honest, realistic and relatable view about starting ux design i get after watching all those how-to-become videos out there! You are so detailed and i love the pace and flow on how you explained everything! Thanks for making this video!
I just graduated BS Computer Science with most of it being spent knee deep in the pandemic. My human-computer interaction course was cut short and the struggle of transitioning into a new learning set up made things a lot harder. I am lost and discouraged but picking myself up slowly. Thank you for this, hopefully I'll make it through!
Thank you so much Rachel! I'm at the point where I'm feeling stuck at my self learning journey, this roadmap really helps a lot! Appreciate it really much! You're amazing!
I really appreciate how passionate you are in your work.. The way you explained in depth with each and small thing shows how skilled or how good your way of learning is
Your Intelligence & Kindness to help others making you much more Effective UX mentor out there! 🙏 Thank You So Much Lady Teacher Rachel for the tutorial for the many who didn't have the means to learn UX! 🕯🌷🌿🌎💖
Love how you break down each step. Even though I have attended 2 boot camps I was left behind because I couldn't understand where to begin. Now I know where to look, learn, and find a good job. I am documenting this as of the 7th of March 2024 because I want to promise myself, you, and anyone else reading that I will land an internship/job before this year ends. See you at 31st of December 2024
The Shen Yun ads come through. I recommend it to you. I have seen the show. It's gorgeous. Symmetrical and elegant. You could give it a shot and bring back that beauty to your product and design process. Probably the next RU-vid video too!
Sometimes you cross paths with certain people that just make you want to be better-- you are one of those people for me Rachel. You're calm but have your stuff together-- Type A meets Type B! Balanced. Thank you for this video!
Got the roadmap! I am self-teaching myself in UX field as well and was overwhelmed by how diversified the skill set is. This comes at a good timing to assess my efforts. Thanks for the great content as usual! :)
When I'm like walking in a fog and struggle how to continue my self_study without waste so much time to find a right way I wactched your video. And at least, I found a roadmap really "real" (it was not make up like it so easy and you will quickly have a trendy job, a high salary job etc...). Thank Rachel for your sharing!

I've taken so many courses and you are basically telling us the same things in such an organised manner for free that I've been paying for till now. Great way of putting things ❤ btw you said step 3 twice. Just for information 😊
Been watching your videos lately since I want to switch careers from frontend development to product design and UX! Thanks for sharing the tips and looking forward to your upcoming videos! lots of love, from Indonesia!
I have watched your video for the first time and now I am confident that I can do good in this field coz. I thought that only bootcamp can help you to became a Ux designer. So thank you for making this video 🤩❤
Amazing video, eliminates lot of confusion for new comers to UI / UX Design, definitely worth of my 12 minutes, after watching other videos where they talk a lot but not to point , this video created a positive vibe and clarity, thank you rachel, great work, Keep inspiring..

This is the first time I am really starting to understand what a UX designer does and is. Someone told me 3 years ago to into UX. I research it but could never put my finger on it if it was really for me. I just could not find the right information. Thank you
Rachel, this is just so well done and your resources and presentation in this video is so awesome. Thank you for sharing with us and giving us the confidence to DO THIS! Just subscribed with notifications, can't wait to see more great work from you!!
This video is so helpful. I started learning ux a few months ago sometimes I feel discouraged. If anyone would like to connect and design please let me know!
Hi christelle! I am in the same boat as you! I would love to connect and talk about UX and our journey! I also started a few months ago and feeling discouraged and it’s nice to know that I am not alone 💕
Hey 👋 I would love to connect too. I started learning UX Design a few months ago and am set to join a Bootcamp. Would be great to talk to others learning aswell 😁
Thank you so much for this video! I'm looking to switch my career to UI/UX Design. Your roadmap really helps me to know where to start and what to do😊😊😊
Hey all. I just started learning UX design this week. I’ll be back to this video in 6 months. All of you hold me accountable and I’ll give you an update.
Thanks for this on Rachel. I just began my UI/UX journey 5 days ago and I know next to Jack. So this video is of great help 'cos flying without a roadmap or an organized way of learning is stressful.
It is SO kind of you to create these videos on top of giving us a roadmap! I've been pretty lost recently as my course literally called Interaction Design didn't actually do UX design at all (I thought there might be some y'know) and I fell out of love with design for a while. The course was good and I learned a lot, but I'm excited to learn more about UI and UX design and hopefully build a career from it. Thank you so much for these incredibly helpful videos, it is so kind and generous of you
@1jennyMcc, I fell out as well. After disappointing bootcamp experience, I am hoping to get the motivation and desire again to become a true UX designer 😅. Please people running away from boot camps promising jobs in 3months or 6 months after the course, they've no link with the companies, you will be doing courses that doesn't give you real world problem to solve after paying hug amount of money, especially if you are new to tech industry😢it won't help you. Have learnt my lesson in the hard way.😢
Your video is so helpful. I have been teaching for a while and I would to transition to UX/UI design. It’s been tough to find a guide. Your road map is great
Anyone reading on 2024, just a few corrections: 1) There is no linear ux process in the real world, everything in the list is a tool, and you as a designer must choose what tools are appropriate for each project. 2) Don't make a beautiful and designed resume, instead make on in word or google docs so its ATS readable. Only if you talk directly with a designer user a hand crafted resume. 3) Market got over saturated because people trying to sell course over promised. It will be very hard for you to break in the industry, not impossible but very very hard. 4) Make real projects not just mocks. There are many open source communities who seek design guidance, join forums, reddit etc.
I've been learning web dev for a few months now and I suffered from a lack of imagination and creativity and basic design principles. I've started learning ux from that google course but this roadmap of yours us sth else. Thank you for this amazing free content
Your videos are so pleasing and effective, Thank you very much for the roadmap... I am sure that I will start documenting my learning path and your video will be at first.😊 Thanks a lot...
not going into deep in ui/ux but m learning it so as a web dev i can at least be jack of all trades to bring together my skills make myself decent ui for my portfolio n get client as a freelancer
I'm very sad rn I got financial aid for my UX course and because I was sick I couldn't finish it on time and now I've missed the deadline. My financial condition is very hard(my dad past away last year) and this was the only hope I had. I saw your video before starting the course and I was prompted to do everything I need to do in this field. I don't know what I'll do now.
I will be glad sometime Ukrainian subtitles lol) My English is not at the level to understand everything you say lol) but I want to start doing ux ui design, It looks so smart that sometimes I think that I am not worthy of it. I don't know if I should start doing this. Because I want to do what I like and make money on it.
