I remember watching your channel years ago when I was changing careers to becomean accountant. I now have my Master’s in Accounting and am 50% done with my CPA exams. Your channel was so helpful during my career transition and I can't thank you enough! If possible could you make videos about your experience taking the CPA exams? Alot of the videos on RU-vid are older and I would love to hear your perspective.
I'm currently finishing up some geneds at community College before transferring to a university. I'm 31 and only have food service/retail work experience. I worry a lot about how job searching will be once that time comes. I feel like because of my lack of experience, connections, and age I need to find a way to overcompensate for those short comings. Sorry for the rant 😂😂
You can start off as a CFO. I know a girl who got that position and she was still in school. We have to be sure not to pass on limiting beliefs to others.
I will be 48 getting my bachelors in business administration. I will be retiring next year and would like to be an accountant. What are my chances that I’ll get hired due to my age?
As a 46 year old woman with almost twenty years of experience, it’s been fairly easy for me to be selected for an interview for accounting roles. You’ll be fine. 😊
What do you think of a bookkeeping and accounting technician certification for someone that wants to work in the office space . Do you think obtaining this certification would provide me with entry roles also am thinking if I like the certification course I can then go further to get my advanced degree in accounting or finance
I would say, “yes”. I started in accounting with only basic courses under my belt. I worked my way up from clerk type accounting positions (AP, AR, assistant, etc.) to Staff Accountant BEFORE going back to school to earn two accounting certificates and an Associates Degree. My reason for going back to college was due to my goal of obtaining a leadership role AND be successful in that role. This is the reason I believe certifications can be useful for entry level accounting positions.
Hello I love your channel, and thank you for all the life/career advice. I started following your channel when I became the full-time caregiver so two family members can complete work years to retire. Both are planning to retire very soon, and I am in the process of returning to work, become secondary caregiver while retired family members will be the primary caregiver. I have a Business Administration undergraduate degree, been out of school since 2008. I am interested in pursuing a career in accounting but wonder should I focus on learning some analytics and basic bookkeeping? I am consistently reminded about my age from other family members. I have considered signing up for Intuit bookkeeping certificate and refresher excel class on Coursera. Also seek entry level accounting clerk positions and working on resume to explain four year gap. I will not be able to begin graduate school until Jan 2025. If you were me would do masters in accounting or business analytics or graduate certificate in accounting or business analytics? I am in my late 40s but I need to work at least twenty something more years.
Hey so I’m a business admin major 3 classes and I’ll be finished I want to start my journey on being a CPA. Can you give me some tips on becoming a CPA
Have loads of videos if you go my accounting career playlist. The transition isn’t easy but it’s for sure do-able if you take the steps in terms of certifications or furthering education in accounting and finding suitable roles
Girl, I don’t even know what to do because I literally just quit my job and I was the assistant of a controller and I was there for six months and I was working there my junior year. now it’s my senior year in college and I realize that I don’t like accounting That’s why I quit my job because I wasn’t understanding the debits and credits and I really want to pivot my career but I don’t know where to apply. I was thinking of financial analyst but I don’t even know what they do I just want to get away from debits and credits, journal entries, I’m just looking for a office job or work from home that pays well. I hope you can help me. Thank you.
Am looking into bookkeeping and accounting tech. Did you get the office job you desire . Also love the office space just wanted to ensure incase I don’t like the credit debit stuff I can still use my certification for an office job
Hello... Thanks for this awesome vids... Um 36 planning to do Master in Professional Accounting as my bachelor is Economics and Public Administration... I really love Accounting and made that huge career mistake when i did my undergrad degree... Now my fear is i will be done wit my masters at arnd 40, so my fear is will i be able to get good accounting jobs looking at my age... Do Accounting firms do look at age?
You’re 36 but I don’t think an accounting firm will discriminate based on your age. I would say to apply for entry level accounting jobs now to get your foot in the door before finishing the masters degree program. I landed a job with an accounting firm when I was 39 years old. My past jobs were with non profits.
What if you do not have an accounting degree or are not in school for it? What advice would you give someone like me who has an undergrad in Psychology but is interested in transitioning into this career field? My local community college has programs for Associates in Accounting, Accounting Certificate, and a Bookkeeping Certificate. What would you recommend? Is the Coursera Bookkeeping Certificate credible in your industry to get entry roles in the field?
I would recommend getting a certification from your local cc if possible as they usually have good financial aid if needed and are affordable. Another option would be an MBA with an accounting concentration
I just signed up to get my certificate in accounting. I'm so excited I have experience in the financial services field ranging from different positions but I just love Finance and Accounting so I pray I do well in classes LOL I'm really good at like budgeting at least my money so I hope the certificate will help me get a job into the field. I'm 39 now and my dad told me when I was 18 to take up accounting and I just did not listen. I took up everything else but but now I'm ready.
I have a bachelors degree in business administration and a college diploma in accounting graduated in 2017 but NEVER got a job based on my degree. None of my family has a rewarding career or ever went to college so I really never knew what to do now 7 years later I’m researching how to get a job with my degree that pays well! As all I had has been minimum wage jobs. Smh I finally woke up and striving for more lol Fingers crossed 🤞🏾 ima do everything you suggested
@@GiaMooore find your local NABA chapter sis (national association of black accountants). And start going to meetings and career fairs they may have. That’s the best organization to get plugged in the accounting world as a black professional
So I already have a bachelors degree in a non business major. I want to be an accountant but I'm not sure if I should get a second bachelors or just get my Masters. And if I do get my Masters will an MBA in Accounting suffice or do I need a MS in Accounting?
Hi Nicole I truly enjoyed your vlog. My question for you is this: As a middle aged person with an accounting degree that has 10 years of experience in purchasing in government, how can you successfully transition to another promising career? Thank you!
Hello, I am a student, and as part of my project, I am organizing a seminar on Global Finance. I'm looking for someone who has experience in finance-related work. Would you be interested in being a guest speaker?
Hello! I'm new here. I found this channel because I really wanted some guidance. I am new on my accounting journey. I just signed up for an accounting degree. I start next month and I am very nervous. I do have a bachelor's degree in finance. My current school doesn't have a Masters program in Accounting however after some research I decided to just get a second bachelor's degree. I found that it would be more cost effective. Plus my school will give me a nice discount since I am an alumni. I do have the benefit of working in banking for the last 17 years. So I have some work experience with finance but little accounting experience. I look forward to seeing more videos.
Your banking knowledge is a skill asset to leverage in terms of reconciliation, processes and procedures. Reporting and financial statements may also be within your skill set and could be viewed as advantageous for an accounting position. Your degree type displays that you have basic knowledge of accounting. Some accounting roles ask for finance degrees as a requirement so you should be a good candidate for an accounting role.
Hi i have graduated 10months and I couldn’t start working because of my newborn i have two kids under 2 and im 30 years do you think they will hire me even if I stopped long time without any work or study or experience ???
Hello love your channel, super glad I found this video. I have an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. For family /personal reasons I had to take a career break, returning to workforce. I will begin Macc degree in Summer or Fall. I have enrolled in a refresher excel course and was thinking of completing bookkeeping Intuit certification as a refresher on undegrad accounting info. I am actively seeking entry level positions. Should I pursue the Intuit(Creator of QuickBooks) Bookkeeping Certification?
