Aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and technicians repair and perform scheduled maintenance on aircraft.
Duties
Aircraft mechanics typically do the following:
Diagnose mechanical or electrical problems
Repair wings, brakes, electrical systems, and other aircraft components
Replace defective parts, using hand tools or power tools
Examine replacement aircraft parts for defects
Read maintenance manuals to identify repair procedures
Test aircraft parts with gauges and other diagnostic equipment
Inspect completed work to ensure that it meets performance standards
Keep records of maintenance and repair work
Avionics technicians typically do the following:
Test electronic instruments, using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters
Interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and performance problems
Assemble components, such as electrical controls and junction boxes, and install software
Install instrument panels, using hand tools, power tools, and soldering irons
Repair or replace malfunctioning components
Keep records of maintenance and repair work
Airplanes require reliable parts and maintenance in order to fly safely. To keep an airplane in operating condition, aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and technicians perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs, and complete inspections. They must follow detailed regulations set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that dictate maintenance schedules for different operations.
Many mechanics are generalists and work on many different types of aircraft, such as jets, piston-driven airplanes, and helicopters. Others specialize in one section, such as the engine, hydraulic system, or electrical system, of a particular type of aircraft. In independent repair shops, mechanics usually inspect and repair many types of aircraft.

Great time to be a mechanic. I’m done with my program in about 2 months and have gotten a lot of offers already. Have an interviewer tomorrow for a job offering 34 and hour starting with a 10k signing bonus.

@@asha8682 i did the associates program my school is offering and it took 21 months so less then 2 years. I know people only doing the diploma program who started last august and they will be done this December. I haven’t been hired as of now because I’m waiting for the company I interviewed with to get back to me. I have a lot of offers that I am considering. I’m in California btw.

@jmech2298
@jmech2298 2 года назад
@@stevemendez2644 it really depends on you and your mechanical inclination. I’m very mechanically inclined and learned the subjects pretty easy. I recommend teaching yourself about things like engines and electricity before school, which will give you an idea on the difficulty of the program and a head start as well. If you can learn those subjects then you can complete the program and get your license forsure.

Some of this video I agree with, but with being a A&P you don’t need to have a job with this trade to work on most aircraft. Being employed is obviously good for income but private aircraft owners can hire you to do annuals (with IA authorization) and 100/1200 hour inspections without being employed through a company. With a A&P license, you are your own boss in a sense. But the A&P demand is MASSIVE right now, company’s are looking to hire over 600,000 mechanics in the next 10 years with average income around $70-$80k yearly.

When my car got a P0171 code (check engine light), I did some research, found out that it meant that the air intake manifold had a gasket that was leaking and needed a new gasket. I disassembled a lot of parts off of the engine, removed the intake plenum, replaced the gasket, and re-assembled everything back together. I love doing stuff like that, but no one is going to pay me to do maintenance work like that, so I just work in warehouse unloading boxes from trucks for $18/hr. I work with one guy who makes $21 driving a forklift, and he used to work as an auto mechanic at a dealership but he says that he makes more driving a forklift than he made as a mechanic, so he doesn't want to go back.

Like anything you have to go down the right path within your occupation. No matter what happens (for the most part) boxes will always move. Cargo is the place to be in this occupation. UPS made record profits during the pandemic and hired all throughout the pandemic and still is. Get experience on regional jets, or contracted Jumbos and try and get on at UPS or FedEx. After top out in slavery you're making over $100,000 for a straight 40 hr week.

Great advice. My Son just started A&P school and will be a second generation mech. The path you describe is what I had intended to take but I ended up taking a different direction. I’ve told him that when he gets his license he needs to hire on with anyone that gets him heavy experience. Pay your dues getting crap wages and working on worn out junk. After a few years apply to UPS and FedEx often. Once in you are set for life.

It's been like this for YEARS!!!! The pay have been absolute trash for the knowledge, liabilities, and sacrifice. I stopped complaining. . . 2 more months and I'm completely done with aviation maintenance. I'm opening a clothing brand.
