One drill that I worked on to help my "fluidity" was full speed double moves. Example: approach wing at full speed (or whatever comfortable speed) and perform a behind the back. Instantly after the behind the back, go into a between the legs dribble directly towards the rim while in stride. This can be done with any move, but the goal is to perform these moves without breaking speed or stopping. I will bring three chairs and separate them evenly. The goal is to perform three quick moves in stride while keeping a high speed (not full speed on this since you have to change directions). I'm a teammate of a guard at my college who is amazing at making moves in stride. Seriously resembles Ja Morant with how well he moves. We are so used to practicing with start-stop moves that we get stiff with our movement. It makes a great difference. It's a long paragraph and I'm sure many won't read. If any of you have any questions or want a better explanation, just leave a comment and let me know. Would love to help out.

About rhythm and being a good dancer… you’re absolutely right. I’ve seen NFL QBs and linemen try to dance and they look awful, stiff, not fluid. Then you look at the running backs, receivers, corners, safeties and they’re dancing with perfect rhythm. These are professional athletes so they’re the best the world has to offer. Not to mention plenty of pro dancers are shredded. Clearly there’s a correlation between dancing and athleticism.

I've been trying to tell the same thing to my brother for last few months. He is 11 and I've been teaching him the basics. He shoots pretty well for a beginner but he is so uptight while moving and running. I've frequently asked him to let the game flow through, shown him examples and videos and whatnot, but he just can't seem to get the point. Hopefully he gets this flow with time.

Bro, I agree with the whole “a lot of good ball handlers are good dancers” philosophy. What people may not realize is there’s a lot of footwork with rhythm that comes with ball handling just like dancing. If your stiff with your dance moves, it will translate in your game, but if you got swag, it will make your handles look smooth. I do dribble to music most of the time.

I thought about the dancing thing for years. and its not that u have to be a good dancer...just that you CAN dance to some extent...enough to look like u belong on the dance floor but if you can't dance at all. 2 left feet... no rhythm....u aint breaking nobody down.... now if u CAN dance pretty well like say john wall...well u see his handles. odell can dance really well and looks like he could have gone pro in almost any sport if he picked it. i believe it helps for defense as well.
