@@brianjohnson6053 damn I mean ik you could make +100k one of my friends is making that much but that's why his comment suprised me it seemed like to much
It would really be helpful to me if you did one of these videos on the career “Urban Planning” I’m most interested in seeing what cities pay Urban Planner the most.
I can tell you from experience that the salaries are for non union companies. Along with just looking at the clothing that some of these lineman are wearing you can tell it is a non union based video. Most lineman, that are in the union, make anywhere from 100k to upwards of 400k a year based on location, overtime, pay scale, and storms. journeyman lineman in my local have a pay scale of about 45 to 46 dollars an hour. This job is much more rewarding than the guy is making it seem, nothing against him, most of the information on union based salaries is kept a secret from the public.
Can you explain the difference between union and non union I plan on attending lineman school soon and hopefully all goes well I’m still young but I’m trying to choose the right path anywhere I go
@@jaboris2x843 yes being a union line man is literally one of the best jobs in the electrical field. Here is a hint. Work for Ameren. Go to lineman school if you work to and literally wait for a lineman job to pop up because Ameren likes to hire from with in. The average is 140,000 a year.
My son startec in 1994 as a groundman and became a journeyman lineman in dec 1999 joined the ibew in 2003 he has been a contractor his whole career so far
There are four things that lineman must be comfortable with. 1. Freeclimbing heights up to 500ft on steel lattice. 2. Freeclimbing poles up to 125' in pole gaffs. (Spikes on your feet) 3. Having very high voltage conductors in your hands that bark, arc and spark. 4. Getting shocked occasionally by secondary voltages. It will happen.
That 500 feet makes me overthink this trade but fuck it I plan on attending lineman school soon hopefully all goes well I really wanna get into this and make some mf money
Every company that I have worked for. or that I know of hires all the time. there's not enough people to go around. Nobody wants to do this line of work. It takes a rare breed! But if you're one of the few that can make it. you get your CDLs and keep your nose to the grindstone you will be making $80,000 within 2 years easy!
@@hwhitley93 my brother is in the army too and he has the same plans use your gi bill to attend a good ass school most of the time these good schools help you get a job when your about to finish the school
One thing that I notice that you didn’t mention with the hiring the reason why many jobs are listed is because company’s now are starting to hire directly out of lineman school, which teach them all the basics and give them there cdl. This is important because then the company doesn’t have to pay to train the person. Overall great video though one of the best I’ve seen 👍
I’m 26 and tbh I don’t even know what to do with my career, my brother in law told me to get into lineman and living in Houston I will always have a job. Really considering this career, I hope this helps me get more income and family start a family.
I’m in the same boat. I live in the uk and iI am 25. I’ve just finished a plumbing apprenticeship but it’s not for me. I want to do something different that is rewarding and outdoors. This looks like a great job to be proud of and with good job security.
@@con6951 I've heard lineman don't make good money there. Also, you'll never really be a full fledged lineman. In the UK they stick you on distribution, transmission, underground, substation or network and leave you on one of those your whole career. Also, you'll probably never do any hotwork even on distribution. Union lineman in the US pick where they work and are required to be trained on the basics for all fields of linework before they are issued their journeyman ticket. We do hotwork and will even bare hand up to 500kv transmission. It's just boring repetetive and sad what UK lineman have become. They've thoroughly idiot proofed everything there so you'll get 25 bucks an hr. I make 60 to125/hr with a shitload of benefits.
@@iant419 sounds good, for US workers but I don’t have much choice. I’m still going to try it. Only because the local company which I am Applying for only recruit apprentices once a year. I don’t know until I try. Plus it mentioned career progression on the job description.
@@otisharris1607 They are making that much including in overtime. I am guessing he is located in California because when the fires take down the polls plus you can get double time after a certain amount of time so ya.
I’m pretty sure CA has the highest wage rates for journeymen linemen (200-300k in NorCalifornia). I think you should also include union wages and non-union wages too because there is a huge pay gap between them. Great video though!
