hey guys!! I know you’re ready so here it is!! The hiring process to becoming a 911 dispatcher!! follow me on social media snapchat: Divamarie03 Instagram: Miss_L_Beezy
I have gone through the dispatch test twice and going on my 3rd, with three different agencies. I found the Sheriff Dept process was a lot lengthier and more intense. Before you even get an interview, I had to complete the typing test, the CritiCall test and fill out over 60 pages of information, very very personal sexual information included. I passed everything until the background check was done. Unfortunately they do not tell you what or why you were disqualified. I have no criminal record or traffic tickets. I do have family members affiliated in criminal activity, not something that should be disqualifying because like you said, those people are NOT you. The detectives did say you would be disqualified if you have lower than a certain credit score and NO debt/collections other than a mortgage or car is acceptable. That is what I assume is what disqualified me at the time because I had been in a car accident and lost my job which led to financial issues. This disqualification does not make sense in certain situations because you can not get out of debt if you can not get a job that pays enough for basic living plus debt. At the 2nd agency it was for a local PD, they required a typing certificate taken physically, not online, so I had to find an Employment Agency that offered typing tests/certificates. The next step was the CritiCall testing which was held at a Civic center because of the mass amount of applicants who already passed their basic testing when applying. Once I passed the CritiCall test, I waited for a panel interview. I did not pass the interview with a high enough score and it is probably because I gave too much information away about me being in an accident, getting injured and how that affected the job I had for years prior. I was also nervous and even got the panel detectives laughing at times with some of the experiences I gave them examples of. I just submitted my typing certificate for this 3rd local PD for dispatch. I am hoping I am not so nervous for the interview. I have the fear that I will be disqualified for telling them that within the last 2 years I did try a medical marijuana card to get myself off of pain meds for my injuries. I have a lot of family past and presently in law enforcement. I wanted to become an officer but since I was injured that is no longer an option because of the physical testing and academy you have to go through. I am a Psychology major, a mother, a wife, a law abiding citizen, licensed to carry, productive member of the community and I am praying to God it is his will for me to have this position. Thank you for the video! I think the hardest parts of the testing process is the psych evaluation and the lie detector testing, especially because you are asked extremely personal information you do not share outside your bedroom and even things that may have happened during your childhood that can be humiliating or painful. Nonetheless, do not be discouraged. Do the best you can, be honest ALWAYS! If you do your best and you still do not get chosen, try again. If you really want this type of career, try hard for it. If that fails, at least you know you tried to the best of your ability and then aim for a similar position. Good luck everyone
I applied and found you on RU-vid and I must say, I passed three counties criticall exam because of you. Now I am in the hiring process. Thank you sis!!!!
I just applied like three weeks ago and received a reply last week and took the criticall test ... nervous but so ready to start...thanks for this information. Video well needed
My Critical and interview and 911 dispatch on call pre test is this week. I had to apply online through the city website for this application. It took about a month before i got the call for all of this! Everything is going to be on this coming Tuesday. Watching these videos hopefully will help me know what to expect. Thank you for your time you put in the video upload - Ill let you all know how this goes for me!!!
So I am on the background check part (submitted my things this week) and boy am I nervous. The videos you had definitely help. I even found you on IG and started following. I hope you’re doing well and thank you for the wisdom!💗
I just wanted to tell you this video is so helpful! I passed my test, had my background interview, had my polygraph test and now I'm waiting for the next step!
Laura, hey thanks for your info, it is extremely valuable. I have a few questions, is the typing test relatively basic? They expect me to type 40 wpm which is fine, but is it a basic typing exam or is it one of those exams that throw a lot of curve balls at you? Another thing, is the critical test super complicated? What to expect? Please reply this will mean the world to me! Thanks for your videos!
Hi Laura! Thank you so much for this video. I’m in the middle of the hiring process for a Campus PD dispatcher position. I passed the Criticall test, and I have an interview with them on Thursday. I’ve never been involved in any criminal activity or drugs, but other than that, I am the poster child of imperfection. I had somewhat of a tragic childhood and a traumatic adolescence and young adulthood. I’ve suffered a lot of loss and emotional abuse, and I’ve allowed that to cause me to make some crazy decisions (a couple of tickets, a couple of accidents, job hopping, school, debt). I know someone who works there, and that could either be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending. Out of these, which ones could potentially disqualify me for the position? I have nothing to hide, but I’m so nervous and feel super insecure about my past.
Hey Laura, I just received my email for the first time. It says your qualified to take the next step in moving forward. The link below is for the online test. Was just wondering if you have any types or how to keep calm when taking the test. Your videos so far are great thank you.
I been thinking of working as a 911 dispatcher and hopefully I get to graduate my highschool. Thank you for sharing this information this is very helpful. No lives is perfect, you can change the future not the past. 🙂
Laura thank you so much! After watching your videos you gave me so much confidence and they passed me on to phase II of the hiring process. Do you have a video of phase II which may include a polygraph, physical and or psychological test…thank you!
Hi, I just got a call to come in for a typing test and they said there's another test. Is this extra testing the criticall or is there a test before that? Thanks!
I have been watching your videos and I just got confirmation with my Sherriffs office to put my two weeks in at my current job today! This is a huge change and I’ve never done anything like this before, what should I expect or be prepared for? And what’s the training like?
I’m from Canada and I know it’s different but your videos have helped relax a little... I passed the Critical Test and I have an interview on Wednesday
my personal statement packet was 59 pages! I filled out three for three different cities around dallas…have my first panel interview tomorrow, with some sort of test before the interview starts. Any idea what that test is like? Thank you so much for these videos! They have been so helpful in this whole process
Thanks for this video. I commented on a different video you posted and I will be taking the test next week. I have a squeaky clean background and to the best of my knowledge so does my family (sister and mom) I will not have any problem passing a background check (drugs, criminal, or employment) I have had one speeding ticket in the past 10 years. I never really gave 911 dispatching consideration as a career but since I am seeking employment and have been researching this line of work...it has really peeked my interest. I watch a lot of shows like COPS, Live PD and such and find them to be great shows and exciting. I know I could do this job and being a part of law enforcement would be AMAZING...
I will let you know...although I have been scheduled for an interview on Friday 7/20...they didn't mention if I would be taking the Criticall Test, however I am sure that I will be taking it or at least I am going in with the mindset that I will be taking it. I understand why they make you take that test...but I wish it was more of just the background, drug, polygraph and typing test all of those I know I will pass with no problem. I am just trusting that all will go well next Friday and I move forward to the next phase of the hiring process. I have never been so excited about a career before.
Hey, so I’m looking into becoming a 911 dispatcher after Highschool, and at one point you said you need to put your mothers information. What if someone were to not have a mother/isn’t in contact with them?
Hello I loved your video it was very informative! I just have a question I am currently looking into dispatching post college and i wanted to know if right now is too early to be applying for positions. I graduate from college spring 2019, so ultimately could you tell me how long the hiring process typically takes?
Indya Woodruff great question! The process varies from agency to agency! I’m currently in process for an agency and have been since April! My first time it was 2 months! I’d say 2 months is the shorter end and maybe 6 months would be longer!
I just had my interview via video chat today w/two ppl workin 4Milwaukee police department, it was a oral board interview & im very anxious to know what’s going to happen😬 yo videos really helped me especially on passin the criticall test! I’m just waiting on them to let me know if I passed my interview 🤞🏽 definitely want this & praying on it🙏🏽
I just had my background check completed, Ehthang CLEAN just my background check not so good, hopefully they see pass that but anotha question I had was do they watch you as you PEE ?
Hello Laura, I know this was posted a while ago, however I just got a phone call and email for my panel interview with my local police department for tomorrow morning! I am not sure exactly how they do their process so we shall see! I know each agency is different ,I haven't been told anything about the Criticall test or anything so maybe they do it at a different point in the hiring process. Gratitude from Florida, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! Ali
good afternoon!! good luck with everything tomorrow! I would be prepared just in case! you’ll do great!!! sorry I hadn’t responded. Life has thrown me some curve balls lately 😳 and I’m just bouncing back!
I am so glad that I found you. I am working on my GED and then I am going to apply for the Dispatcher job here in my town. I have some Luitenents and officers helping me by putting in a good word and writing recomendations. I have been sober for 6 years going on 7. I am so ready to do this! I know I have no clue what it will be like but I am ready for the next stage of my life.
So I've watched some of your videos this evening and I think that this would be a really awesome job for me because I'm very fast at things and multitasking is kind of just second nature and I'm very good at staying calm intense situations. But I'm not going to lie... that pay is so sad. I also live not too far from you (relative to how large the United States is) but it would be a big decrease in pay for me and it stinks because amount of responsibility that emergency dispatchers have is insane and you would think that they would get paid relative to that. I mean if Amazon employees that are picking products and boxing them are getting paid $15 an hour but emergency dispatchers only getting paid a couple bucks more that... it just doesn't seem fair but it would be nice to have a job that I could help people.
I just got the email that my application has been selected to move forward. I am very nervous but excited is out of my career but i believe this a sign of god to trust him.
Joanna Mejia thanks for watching!! My agency did not require any contracts! I’m not sure about other agencies though but I’ve never heard of there being contracts!
The department I’m applying with mentioned a psychological exam but I’ve also heard of some places doing polygraph tests. Do you know how common that is?
hey this was very helpful... I have one question, what if you don't really have a good job history or haven't worked in a long time period? should I still apply?
How do you become a 911 operator? Like what does the schooling look like / how long does it take to become one, can yoh shadow someone before becoming a 911 operator.
Daveney Von thanks so much for watching!! Congrats on your interview!! Just be yourself... and rock it! Stay calm and answer the questions honestly! It’s a bit intimidating especially if there are officers involved but just remember they are people as well! Just stay calm! Let me know how it goes!!
Laura Bryant girl I stumbled so bad but tried to light the situation as best I could.. I don’t know what went over me!! Tried my best. I doubt I got it but we gonna see lol
what if you been a stay at home mom for the past 15 years? I don't have any work history or references to list cuz it's been SO long since I've worked.
Does anyone on here know how long the background check takes? I just turned my packet in a few days ago and am getting pretty nervous/anxious. I’ve job hopped a lot in my past and am worried that will bite me in the butt during this process. There are a few other things I’m worried about as well. If the investigator looks through the packet and sees automatic things that will disqualify you will he let you know right away or do they keep doing the investigation and let you know at the end?
It takes a while. They call all of your references, all of your past employers and all of places that you’ve lived. They will verify the entire packet of information. It can take more than a month sometimes… it just depends on how fast people respond. Unfortunately…. Good luck with everything and thanks for watching!!
Hello! Was wondering if there are resources for the dispatchers when they receive a call that effects them personally? I am doing my research on this type of field and just curious if I would be a good fit. Thank you!
Hey sorry I’m just getting to this. But here’s a video that you may find helpful!! Becoming a 911 Dispatcher: Panel Interview and Polygraph Exam ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w80XZ2GraF4.html
Is it important to have a drivers license? The department im interested in requires one but I’m not sure if it’s actually necessary and I don’t want to waste an application because here, is one application per year.
Hello ! I’ve been watching your videos to help me with the test. I must say I really enjoy them and they provide a great deal of information that’s useful. I do have a question on the typing part of the test. I was wondering if they cared about the accuracy. My typing speed is 52, but my accuracy is a 60%. Will that cause me to fail the test ?
Loura im alittle rusty on my typing speed. They say you have to atleast type 35wpm. Im about 5wpm shy. Will that hinder my chance of being a 911 dispatcher?
Luckily they don’t do anything like this here in Connecticut.. you apply for the job, take a drug test have a background check and have on the job training. You just have to obtain all of your certificates within a year of employment. No polygraph, no extra tests, nothing… making $30an hour
Heyyy!!!! I would say there aren’t any books to pass the exam that I know! Google criticall and my video will come up! Watch it for everything you need!
Calista Coleman hey there! I would recommend but it really depends on you and what type of person u are and what u can handle! Hope all in well in the field!!
Just received a call for an interview after 3 weeks submitting a application. Does this mean i will be taking the criticall when i go for the interview?
Hey Laura Hoping if you can answer a question for me. I went through all the process. I have passed the polygraph test, the psychology exam. I took my drug test last Thursday so it’s been a little over a week since then. How long does it usually take for it to come back? I’m just excited to start lol
Alyssa Retana Heyy!! Congrats on making it this far!! Ummmm they are good if you are not good with data entry. The ones I have see aren’t good to me because I have that experience. I hope that’s helpful for you!
Passed my critical test, they did a home visit and I’m taking my polygraph test next week 😬 I’m more nervous about the academy it’s 4 weeks, but I recently found out I’m pregnant and don’t know how soon it will be and I’m wondering if I can hide being pregnant and get the 4 weeks over with 🤔🤔🤔
So the Criticall is after the background? Because I took a 2.5 hour assessment with those calls and questions in the pre-employment briefing at the beginning
Hello, I'm a student who wants to be a nine-one-one dispatcher. This video is helpful but I have one question, I have a visual impairment and I want to know if I can still do this job? It will be nice if you contact me back.
Ask to sit in dispatch and observe. It will help you get a feel for what is needed to do the job. You will be able to see all the equipment they use and if you have the visual acuity to get the job done.
Lizette Arroyo hey there!! Every agency is different. I’ve done it 3 different orders... but basically the order u have is accurate. The drug screen I took was urine.
I got a call-back to go to an orientation. I'm excited but intimidated by the multitasking. I CAN, I'm just nervous. The reading, spelling, maps --I'm good. Just worrying about the typing. :( Listening skills I'm good, too! Oh, I have Indeed as well...they're great! Anyway, Laura, any advice? The orientation is Aug. 3, 2018. I applied and got a call right away! They said I had the minimum requirements. So...thanks for your informative videos!!
@@IceESole Hi! I actually did not...am still studying for my MS in Trauma Counseling. I feel like handling the intensity of stress required for 911 op. isn't 1 of my strong points so it's best I didn't get the job....could have put someone's life in danger... Thank you for asking! (✿◡‿◡)🤍
Ebony P. Hey the process was very long and I made it all the way to the panel interview and the guy who interviewed me was such a jerk and rude he was overpowering the women and talking down on how much I haven’t had much work experience so I ended up not getting the job at all 🙁
Aww. I am so sorry to here this. I am hearing plenty of horror stories. I have a great job, great benefits and giving up a lot to move. I am using my 1 year explority to find a job. I am waiting on some to hopefully call me for interview with dallas water and sanitation. I have 911 for dallas, frisco and mesquite. I prefer mocing to cedar hill/ desoto area.
Ebony P. That would be awesome I truly hope you get it . Yes I was so excited then boom it went downhill . I guess it was a blessing in disguise because I’m a mother of 3 and I know the hours are long . I started my own business doing what I love event decorating so I’ve been doing that the past two years now
Hey there... I've applied for a 911 dispatcher in my area and I haven't gotten a call yet but it's only been two days since I filled out the application lol.I've never been a 911 dispatcher but I was told to apply anyway ..I am very nervous about the interview. What should I expect? Type of questions?
Katima Williamson sometimes it takes a while to respond! It took about 3 weeks for me to hear back after I had applied... just be patient! Unfortunately, I can not disclose the types of questions that were asked in my interview 😥 but just relax! You will be fine!
