If you are a teenage or adult piano beginner and just started the play the piano, then this video is for you. You started the piano ‘late,’ and around you, you see many young pianists playing already so well. It is a bit intimidating, isn’t it, as a starter? I know because I was there. But there is no need to feel discouraged taking up the challenge of becoming an excellent pianist! In this video, I’ll share with you 5 elements to focus on so you can succeed as I did.
I started to play the piano late. I was already 15 years old and couldn’t even play or read any music. But I had a passion for listening to music. I started to take lessons, and less than 4 years later, when I was 19, I took entrance examinations at different conservatories, including Maastricht and Amsterdam. I was admitted as a professional piano student for all these conservatories. And I chose to study in Maastricht because of the teacher Avi Schönfeld, a pupil of Arthur Rubinstein, Vlado Perlemuter, Ilona Vince-Krauze, and Yvonne Lefébure. I studied for 7 years with Avi Schönfeld. It is the best choice I could make, and I’m still grateful for it today.

ABOUT ME:
I started to play the piano "LATE" as a teenager, I was fifteen. TOO LATE is what many told me. It didn't discourage me, and I was lucky to have an excellent piano teacher early on. I knew what I wanted and had the discipline thus, I managed to pass the entrance exam for the conservatory with excellence 👌 in just 4 years of piano lessons!
In only 4 years of playing the piano, I managed to play very well Chopin's etude opus 25/12, Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu, and Nocturne in F-Major, Mozart's sonata KV332, Rachmaninov's Pollichinelle, and Bach's Prelude and Fuge in C-minor and B-flat Minor. Then I studied for seven years at the conservatory with Avi Schönfeld, a pupil of Arthur Rubinstein. I believe YOU CAN do that TOO! And I love to help you! 😃

Excellent video. I started almost two years ago at age 25 and am on a similar journey to you when you were 15. I also know that it is truly possible. Good to see an example out there.

WONDERFUL!!! Lars, do you have any footage of your teacher - playing or in an interview? It would be great to hear him speak. 🤗

Thank you for the nice feedback! ☺ Perhaps I'll do some four hands someday with my teacher (Peter Simons) that I had the two years prior to the conservatory. My teacher Avi Schönfeld, with whom I studied at the conservatory, made some recordings, and I'm still asking for those. And he told me he will make these available, but still didn't. I'll keep asking. He did the first-ever recording of the complete Scriabin Etudes. The record company went bankrupt. He still has these 'black records'. I want my hands on those because he is a really excellent pianist who himself studied with Rubinstein, Perlemuter, Lefébure and Ilona Vice-Krauze. It is ridiculous that his recordings are not available to listen. I told him that already... His excuse is that he has chosen composition. Indeed his music is published by many publishers and he writes obligatory works for many piano competitions. Perhaps he'll do an interview for my channel someday? I hope...

@@PianoFantasy I look forward, Lars, to hearing him speak and to hearing his recordings - should this become possible. Thanks again. 🤗 Your teacher had great teachers.

Thank for this video! It gives a great motivation! I started at age of 6 and I decided to conclude my studies when I was 34 years old! Within a year, I'll obtain my degree. I do not know what I'll can do with the music, but I would be more focused and less depressed:) Ps- sorry, I do not speak English very well😅

Thanks for your comment! Yes, being motivated is one of the most important factors when it comes to face the challenge to learn playing the piano well. And if improving your playing makes you feel better about yourself, then this is a great motivation!
