✏ Coming to the Convent is a conscious choice for every sister. They accept monasticism to recognize their sins, repent of them and devote their lives to serving God. They do not join become hermits who always look down and never talk to anyone. As father John (Krestyankin) wrote, today's monastics should not be living as recluses when so many people need their help to strengthen their spirits.
In this video, nun Veronica shares her experience of becoming a nun and talks about her progress to monasticism. Her mother and aunt speak about how they accepted Veronica's decision.

I studied in a convent school, the sister in our convent were very friendly to us and they have been like a mother to us till date I miss those memories which I spent with them❤❤ I'm a Pentecostal Christian and would like to become a nun where I'm not interested to get into marital life, will be one among you in future........ Though I'm from a different community not sure I will allowed to join the convent.

Question? There are Priest's in the Orthodox Church who are not for the monastic life and Priest's are allowed to marry and encouraged to bring their family's up in the church. This also reduce the scandals of sexual immortality that we hear in the Catholic church because their Priest's arent allowed to marry.. My question is? Can the Nun's in the Orthodox Church also Marry?
@basementlm4200
@basementlm4200 11 месяцев назад
No, nuns and monks cannot marry. They live in the convent in chastity. In the Coptic tradition, nuns are considered to be betrothed to Jesus !

No Orthodox nuns can’t marry. Nuns are not really the counterpart to priests, the male counterpart to nuns are monks, who cannot marry either.

There are black and white clergy in russian orthodox Church, and white of them can have wifes, black of them can't, but the nuns are always black clergy.

Where did the idea come from? Can you find a nun in the Bible?
@kellyanna94
@kellyanna94 2 года назад
Holy singleness was exhorted by St. Paul in scripture. Becoming a monk or nun is just one way to do that. Even Protestants do things not in the Bible: no altars or priests, despite Jesus being modeled as our own High Priest (anywhere you see "elder" in the New Testament was a Protestant change from "priest" due to the Reformation...) guitars and light shows in worship....I could go on. The term "sola scriptura" was not even a concept until 1500, it was a concept utterly foreign to the Church. The Bible is written tradition and there was also verbal tradition passed down from the apostles. (2 Thess 2:15: "Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by *word*, or by our epistle...")

I would also add that there are plenty of parachurch things that are not in the Bible: the specific title of youth ministers, worship leaders, pastors taking business classes, organizations centered around a lot of different needs like Big Brother/Sister, adoption/foster care, hospitals...just because the Bible inspires the creation of things (whether it be monastic orders or your local Campus Crusade for Christ or Business Leaders for Christ) doesn't mean they shouldn't be done.

@@kellyanna94 Thanks for your response :) I definitely agree that many churches, ministries don't follow exactly what the Bible teaches. However it doesn't mean that every believer can do what he wants. Bible is for us spiritual instruction, and God knows the best, how we should worship Him. Indeed, Paul encouraged to stay alone, but it was just a recommendation, not commandment. Nevertheless the celibat is not the main issue, but rather the whole idea of monastery, strict order, many rituals, religious practices, that are not supported in scriptures. The priesthood hanged meaning at all in the new covenant. Obviously Jesus is our High Priest, but believers are called "the royal priesthood" 1 Peter 2,9.

Being a monk or a nun is not commandment, people do this on their free will, they want to fully dedicate their life to serving God. Monastics draw inspiration from the writings of the Desert Fathers as well as other Church Fathers. The purpose of the such a way of life is union with God, the means is through leaving the world (i.e., the life of the passions).

@@StElisabethConventOfficial Thanks for reply! I fully understand this idea of dedicating our lives to serving God, but why this way? Being a monk or a nun means to live in a modest and so on, and that's good, but it's also combined with a religious system, which requires obedience, doing different rituals, that God definitely don't call us to practice.

The older nun has make up on(!). I didn't know nuns wore make up, I thought they were supposed to give all that kind of thing up?

She isn't a nun. She is a sister of mercy ( it just means that she goes to the hospital regularly to help the sick)

Эти женщины должны растить здоровых христианских детей, а не сидеть за стенами. Стены не спасают, а чадородие.

child bearing would be quite difficult for them, they're married to their Jesus but they would need someone they can actually contact you know since praying to Jesus is like talking to thin air
