One thing (out of many) that I've always enjoyed about Joe's channel is just the pure enthusiasm and zest for life. The fish, the sunsets, the dragonflies, jumping in the river fully dressed... Joe's laugh when something delights him is infectious and it's one of the things that makes his content so enjoyable to watch.

Recently, I learned that if you attach a plastic dragonfly onto your person somewhere noticeable, the horse/deer/black flies (and mosquitos) stay away, it's basically a Scarefly [scarecrow, but for the prey of dragonflies]. I'd suggest gluing the plastic dragonfly onto a safety pin or barrette, then it's modular!

Hearing you talk about the dead tree at @19:35, reminded me that *YOU* Joe...inadvertently saved my ass in Aokigahara Forest (AKA Japan’s ‘suicide forest’) after I learned from one of your videos the wisdom of checking for “Widow-maker” trees and branches around your campsite 🏕 before setting up your tent. I camped there in May (2021) and was just about to set the tent when, after having already checked for and avoided the obviously dead trees, I remembered to give the one closest to the site a good kick just for peace of mind... (boot to tree🥾🌳)..Crack!...Woosh! THUD!!! A 3-4 inch thick branch landed _right_ where the tent was gonna go, and definitely would have at least put at serious hurt 😳☠️😳 on whoever it had landed on had I not remembered to check one more time, thanks to your vids.

I love how the more and more away from people and civilisation you get, the more you appreciate nature. The skies, the insects, the trees, the fish, etc. That’s what it’s all about right there. Connection. We re born of nature and we will return to it. When we put aside technology and sit in the wilderness, even for a few hours, we reconnect to the old ways and to our ancestors. It’s crying out to us to find it again and we simply have to follow. Back is the only way forward. Thank you for keeping the touch burning man🔥

Keeping the pressure on them correctly and you become a better angler while not dealing with the barbs. Cheers.

Just watched both vids back to back. Man, thank you for this. I really hope, under the current climate, young folk find videos by people like yourself and start to learn the skills that have been so lost due to us becoming “civilised”. We are in more need of learning how to live outdoors and survive off the land than ever and it’s people like yourself that keep the torch of our ancestors burning. I am lucky enough that my daughter has grown up appreciating the old ways through me, but I truly pray that something reaches those kids that don’t have parents interested in the outdoors and basic survival find people like you. All the best man. Looking forward to more content.

Always love your videos Joe! Your sore elbow is maybe nature's way of telling you that you should look at changing or improving your paddling technique. You seem to use only your arms, while kayak videos suggest using your shoulders & torso more. Take a peek at the online & animated paddling technique videos. Just a suggestion to eliminate the pain.

My neighborhood here in South Carolina has a lot of ponds and we get a lot of Canadian geese that will hang out for the winter. Sometimes, I'll see families of them while I'm out riding my bike on the nature trails near me, and I've seen that protective behavior before. I try to steer clear of them, but sometimes I can't help but stumble on them a little too close. Both mama and papa will stomp their feet and hiss at me. It's hilarious to see, because you can tell they mean business, but it's also cute as hell. I'll quickly back off because I'm not out to cause them any problems, and it's great to see nature at work like that.
