Due to evidence of scoring in number 4 bore, and doubts as to the quality of workmanship on this engine, I removed the sump in order to check the bottom end and remove no.4 piston, a task which was a struggle.

I was under the impression that when Mad Works Garage had the CA was that they removed the engine that was with the vehicle when they acquired and as a matter of course, fitted a completely re-built unit, undertaken by others. The work that was done previously looks to be barely adequate, might be worth giving MWG feedback on their engine builder. Good to get these things checked out and fortunately, these are robust engines so will take short-term abuse hopefully without any lasting effects, good job! Thanks for sharing.

Very difficult to see properly without removing the engine, which is too bigger job

The bottom end sounded fine before, so it should be OK and I'll just deal with any faults as and when they arise, as I don't want to make any unnecessary work.

with all rhat silicon on the sump, at least it didnt leak. Lets hope all is okay, maybe the metal in the sump is from prior to the rebuild and they did not clean it out. Good luck.
