In August, al Nusra Front jihadists took control of Syria’s side of the border crossing with Israel and kidnapped over 40 United Nations peacekeepers - who have since been released.
But al Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-affiliate, isn’t Israel’s only threat from Syria. President Bashar al-Assad’s military, in a possible effort to bait Israel into its civil war to shore up Arab sympathies, has been lobbing mortars across the border. Just a few weeks ago, the Israeli military shot down a Syrian plane flying over the Golan Heights - the first time it has done so since the 1980s.
In the final part of our series, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky gets a perspective on the looming threat of the al Nusra Front from a special unit of the IDF - Bedouin trackers who specialize in protecting the border.

Tsavage789 Jews had no American support whatsoever after 1948. They used old German weapons that were sold to them by Eastern European nations after WWII. They still kicked everyone's ass. Same went in 1967, when an arms embargo was imposed. Neither the US, nor Europe were willing to sell Israel weapons, so Israel made its' own weapons, and kicked ass yet again. Your theory of "America saved Israel's ass" is simply bogus

Actually, the IDF used a hodgepodge of equipment in 1948, not just German equipment. In the Six Day War, the IDF had mostly French Planes (Mirages and Super Mesyres), as well as British Centurion tanks, French AMX's, and about 100 illegally purchased M48 Pattons. In terms of Israel making their own equipment, the only 100% native weapon they had was the Uzi, the rest were foreign weapons modified to suit the middle eastern desert.

Modified or not, my point was to answer the ignorant one above who claimed that Israel purely depends on America. Although Israel does take any favours it gains, it has already proven it is perfectly capable of managing even when isolated (which explains why it remains defiant in front the UN, which tends to be biased against it in all conflicts)

For those who didn't understand.. Those soldiers you saw in the video are Druze( not Jews!) they are serving in the Druze battalion in the IDF and protecting Israel .

They're actually bedouin of a special bedouin battalion (also not jews) but there are Druze battalions in the IDF as well

@bundycamp But the Druze usualy dont speak hebrew or speak very little. They can go for regular battalions but usualy prefer arabic speaking battalions.

Hey guys i have a friend that was in the I.D.F. and he saw people on the other side Egypt crying for food and water and my friends as a soldier went to help them... and guess what??? he was murdered b/c he was a Jew... we try to help every one... in Turkey we used to help in earthquakes, we offered help in pakistan, we were the first and the only one out of 2 hospitals that we built in the Bahamas after the huriccane, i have a friend that went to help in the far east after the title wave... by the way i never hear about the much richer countries around us like Qatar help them, even though i know they buy football clubs in the millions and support terror and build amazing buildings

It's not impossible. Just need a company looking to hire, and a recruiter who knows how to find these guys and offer them the right amount for their services. The work visas and language issues will resolve themselves in no time.

Bedouin (Arabs) are nomad Arab tribes, where each tribe has a different loyalty in accordance with its Shaykh's priority. 5% of Bedouin tribes in Israel are allied with IDF, the rest are mostly neutral, but quite a few are also supporting Palestinian Jihadists (Hamas etc.) and global Jihad (recently some Israeli Bedouin were reported of joining ISIS and being killed in Syria). Most of the Bedouin tribes in Iraq and Syria allied with ISIS. Do you still want Bedouin in your country? You can have them.

I'm four years late but I'll explain. Across the whole Israeli border is a small dirt road that is covered in dust. You simply cannot cross it without leaving a footprint. If someone crosses in the middle of the night (while soldiers are watching it) they will leave footprints and will be able to be tracked.

3 year old comment but i wil answer this now, the purpose of the hat is to "break" the shape of the head, when u see a head in the dark or in a bush area you can clearly notice that its a human, therfore the hat dosent make the head round and therfore in the dark you think its a bush or a rock

***** If you had a reason to think someone is a threat you'll shot him. am i wrong? isn't that the army's job? you're looking at a short footage from a vice news report and suggesting that all of their way of operating is wrong. looking at his feet may suggest if it's just this guy or a few other guys. better to check this instead of not. what do you want them to do? check this guy shoe to see if it's him and only then shoot the guy who holds an ak-47?

+Daniel M , the human head plus a military helmet makes a very easy target to spot. If you were in combat situations you would know that in time of engagement when you are aiming down sights you engaged a silhouette and not fully detailed bodies. Like i said the human head pose a very specific silhouette that is easy to spot, the net on the helmet or like we call it the mushroom hood is there to break this silhouette therefore making it harder to spot.

***** if you read a book about the history of the geographical area to which today we refer as Israel, you'd know that the Bedouins in this area were betrayed by their "brothers". during the emigration of Jews from Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, the only people who were upset by this emigration were the Arabs, to which some people like to refer nowadays as "Palestinians". one of the many groups in the geographical area, that in those times was referred to as Palestine, who weren't bothered by the emigration of jews were the Bedouins. because the bedouins weren't bothered by the emigration and remained a "neutral" group, the Arabs in the area started thinking they were "Co operating" with the jews. that led to a number of violence cases of Arabs against bedouins, thus leading to bedouins getting closer to jews, rather than being closer to their "brothers".

I ve watched all 5 episodes plus i ve been watching and following quite alot the conflicts in the area since the civil war started. Well If one would sit down and count points on which the "freedom" fighters and the ISIS get VS the Syrian Regime well one will loose count! Yet no one tries to mention the elephant in the room. Only the officer on this video at the end said what exactly describes the situation and its solution as a whole. That as long as u have someone on the otherside that controls and rules u know how to deal with him. Now u have 1000 fractions of lunatics and this... If Vice made it into N.Korea they should be able to make a reportage from inside Syria where the regime rules and hear those inconvienient things we dont get to hear about the "evil" Assad regime.VICE is the only one who can make this happen, they should throw some light on that side too and they ve been doing this pretty good ,so what are they waiting for?

What can the turks do? They still use Phantom as their bombers, they dont have any F-15's, lot of their weapon arsenal is Israel-Made and their Electronic Warfare Unit is very small. Israel has the best Air-to-Air missile in the world (Piton-5/4) which can destroy a plane that is behind you. Also Israel has the Jericho missilies who can hit every point in Turkey, carrieing more then 1 ton of exploasive or a nuclear head. But hey, Turkey is part of Nato, declaring a war against Israel is simply leaving the western world and becoming one of the muslim enemy countries.

I hope that was a joke - I once walked the dog (in Israel) when 4 missiles from Gaza were taken out by iron dome literally above my head - trust me pity for Israel is something the U.N an much of the world sadly lacks , under ANY circumstance
