Bee Gees - Nights On Broadway (Live 1975)

The Bee Gees were a singing trio of brothers - Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. They were born on the Isle of Man to English parents, lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England, United Kingdom and during their childhood years moved to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where they began their musical careers. Their worldwide success came when they returned to the United Kingdom and signed with producer Robert Stigwood.
The multiple award-winning group was successful for most of its forty years of recording music, but it had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a harmonic "soft rock" act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as the foremost stars of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognizable; as brothers, their voices blended perfectly, in the same way that The Everly Brothers and The Beach Boys did. Barry sang lead on many songs, in an R&B falsetto introduced in the disco years; Robin provided the clear vibrato lead that was a hallmark of their pre-disco music; Maurice sang high and low harmonies throughout their career. The three brothers co-wrote most of their hits, and they said that they felt like they became 'one person' when they were writing. The group's name was retired after Maurice died suddenly in January 2003.
The Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; fittingly, the presenter of the award to "Britain's first family of harmony" was Brian Wilson, leader of the Beach Boys, America's first family of rock harmony.
It has been estimated that the Bee Gees' record sales total more than 200 million, easily making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The above figure in record sales does not include record sales for artists for whom they have written and with whom they have collaborated. Their 1997 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame citation says "Only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees

@@mandyharewood886 Because the "rock" crowd started the whole "Disco Sucks" thing by burning Bee Gees (and other dance artists') albums in 1979 in a baseball stadium in Chicago and started a riot. The Gibb brothers went from performers to writer/producers. The fact that they continued to write incredibly popular and award winning songs for other artists in many different genres is the ultimate F.U. to those people in that stadium. Somewhere I saw Barry say that when he and Robin would sing, Maurice always knew exactly where and how to fill in the third part of their harmonies. This is my favorite performance of this song, not only because they sound amazing but because it's such a treat to hear Maurice take the falsetto responses at the end.

This is my favorite rendition of Nights on Broadway too. There’s something about Barry’s smile, and how he looks out at the audience after that opening line. Not to mention Robin’s famous kick dance, so bad it’s endearing! 😉 Of course they sound amazing. Maurice kills it with the high note knocking this one out of the park! Pure brilliance. Love these guys

I love The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb too. I listen to this mix of songs everyday while I work at my desk! Good thing I work from home because I sing and dance in my office chair. Ok, Robins leg kicks are hilarious! I was a teenager in the 70s so I was in love with Andy Gibb, but as I look at the videos now (I’m 60) I find myself looking at Barry like OMG he was hot as hell 😊 ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Not a single piece of wireless gear on that stage, no wireless ear monitors yet Barry knows he nailed the opening verse and Robin locks right on to the harmonies. No digital reverb to mask vocal flaws, any reverb is from the venue itself. The mix is awesome. Amazing confidence to pull this off live. Absolutely top-notch.

incredible. Nothing like Bee Gees pre-SNF. I'd read from many sources that Barry found his falsetto with this song, but here we have the multi-instrumentalist (and harmonizer) Maurice singing the part. Robin is mesmerizing front and center in glorious voice. Barry directs from the side, keeping it all together, hitting the guitar hard, with strong back-up vocals. These were beautiful, talented men at a unique moment in contemporary music. There will never be another act to match them.

Continue to be weird! My nineteen year old son does the new computer generated stuff but admits that the old stuff was better in every way. I guess every generation needs hear their own thing and create their new sounds. They need their own identity. But musicians know what true music is, even the young ones. They know and yet....

The thing that comes to me after listening to this is they did not have pitch problems; ya cant sing 3 part harmony when you are off-pitch, even slightly. So that is why this is awe-inspiring to me.

If I lived to be a million years old, I will never understand why so many great and talented artists have left us far too soon while scum continues to walk the earth. I wouldn’t shed a single tear if every politician and billionaire dropped stone dead. They contribute nothing good that lasts in comparison to this one song.

I was fortunate enough to see the Bee Gees when they were at their peak for the Spirits Having Flown tour back in 1979. They were phenomenal, with a stunning laser and light show, they had every fan dancing in the aisles. To this day (34 years later), I have never ever seen a better act live, with the Eagles and Santana right behind.

_He was groomed along with his brothers to be true musicians very early in their lives. What you see here is utter talent the brothers Gibb always demonstrated. I honestly think they knew they sounded good, yet, the next chapter in their career made them realize they had really made it! Still hands down some of the very best 'live' work ever on "Nights On Broadway'._

What I really love about this song is each brother's voice is distinct and at the same time they blend. How do they do that. ALSO Barry is so freaking good looking and his voice, his true voice needed no gimmicks, no falsetto, just his own beautiful voice. I've watched this a zillion times and I never get tired of it. I'm a year younger than Barry and I can't believe it took me this long to discover this song! Thanks to Ben Pratt also.

@@gailesmusictherapy8525 - I went to the show twice. You were told to sit and behave. You sat on the floor and there were three stages. You swivelled your butt to face whichever one was used for a particular song. All vocals had to be lived though sometimes they could have backing music tracks though that was not the norm. In later years of the show they let people get up and dance.
