"WHY should this song end?!?" Well, there are many of us out here that ask ourselves that same question - so, You're in good company! These three Musical Geniuses blessed us with close to 50 years of Pure Magic...💖💖💖
I always enjoy watching your reaction to the Bee Gees - Pure happiness. Indeed, this video was late 1960's but the extreme vocal talent and writing beautiful lyrics already evident. Song was originally penned for Otis Redding, who tragically died before he could record it. Since you loved this song, NEXT? "Run to Me" (1972) video version - Barry has his trademark beard, but blonde hair! It's another classic Bee Gees love song.
If you want to see Robin do lead vocals, react to Massachusetts (One For All Tour Live In Australia 1989). This live performance includes some backup singers and some wonderful harmony at the end that is not included on their studio recording. Another good Bee Gees hit (there are many) is "Nights on Broadway." If you want to hear another short one from their early period, check out "Holiday." I'm 75 years of age, and I've been following the Bee Gees ever since they were kids.
They had already been performing as a group for nearly TEN YEARS when this was recorded. Barry was approximately 13 and Robyn and Maurice were 9 when they started, it was in Brisbane Australia after their family migrated from Britain.
The twins would have been about 17 years old here and Barry would have been about 20. That's why they look so young. The genre of the song is that it's an R&B love song. The brothers originally wrote it for Otis Redding - and I think it would have been perfect for him - but unfortunately he died before it could be recorded. However, it's been covered by many other singers, including Nina Simone and Janis Joplin.
Hi Gorgeous: Loving you and your channel. Someone else commented that songs were short (3 and a half minutes) b/c DJ's would not play them if they were longer than that. True - but should say more. Many of these songs were released as "singles" which means they had to physically fit on a small 45 RPM record. Impossible pretty much to put a song longer than 5 minutes or so on a 45 without effecting quality. Many people did not buy albums in mid 1960's so bands/artists were limited to "short" songs. HOWEVER all this changes around 1966-67. At that time the emphasis changed from singles to albums, so bands could feel free to record much longer songs. DJ's still were reluctant to play longer songs but this attitude also changed a few years later. Ok, just a bit of history there . . See ya later.
The reason why songs were so short then was because they were sold on vinyl records (small 45 rpm records for single hits) and the record's physical size limited the length of songs. Radio stations played these small records, so to get air time, songs had to be kept short. Radio air time was the main way to promote the sale of records - remember, there was no internet back then.
Thank you for your reaction, Onyin! I am the farthest thing from a RU-vid expert that you will find, but many of the other music reactors pause a couple of times while listening to the song and maybe that helps them avoid being blocked? You could reach out to some of them - maybe they can share some advice. The Bee Gees were amazing, and I have to say I prefer their earlier music. You could try Words, I've Gotta Get A Message To You, I Started A Joke, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and Tragedy to start. And the reason the songs were short in those days is that radio stations would not play longer songs because they feared they could not get enough commercials in!
A lot of people believe (And I used to be one) that this song was written specifically for Otis Redding, and that the BeeGees decided to record after he died. I thought so too until I realized the dates didn't match up to that story. Otis loved the song when he heard it. He mentioned it in an interview or something. He was going to cover it. The BeeGees couldn't have decided to record it after he died. To Love Somebody was one of the songs on the BeeGees first international album called BeeGees 1st. That album was released in mid July in 1967, several months before Otis Redding was killed in a plane crash on Dec. 10, 1967.
Search YT for a song called 'Bury Me Down By The River', from 1970, on album Cucumber Castle. That's a phanastic soulsong of Bee Gees (without Robin on this period), flavoured with gospel. I'm sure, you like it.
lovely song. What i would recommend, Is Tears in heaven by eric clapton. A song he wrote after loosing his son, his son was 4, i lost my Daughter as a baby, its a lovely song full of emotion and also sad, but a wow song, this song is cool .
Yay!! It is so good to see that you were able to successfully post a reaction video. I am so very happy for you and for the rest of us! This was a good song by a good group from the '70s, and it was a classic. It's wonderful to see you appreciate the songs of yesterday. So do I. I think true music lovers learn to appreciate music from all eras. And for that we are most blessed. Fantastic reaction by you and here's to your next one! 🙏🙂❤️
