Bee Man Vs Trash Pile Full Of Bees

Honey bees will often colonize the strangest of places but what we may consider an odd location for a bee colony to a bunch of bees is just another place to set up shop.
It was definitely time to step in & give these gals a hand as the trash pile they called home for at least a year was rapidly deteriorating.
This one was definitely all about how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll?
It was a nitpicking endeavor, time consuming but the bees were gentle & in the end cooperated with my efforts to place them into a domestic set up.
If you enjoy this video please consider subscribing & please tell family & friends to check out my channel.
I'd really appreciate it!

I'm not surprised in the slightest that these bees were so mild and gentle. Comparatively speaking, they went from hunkering down in an apartment complex that has already been condemned, to a nice, well-maintained condo. These girls will be MUCH happier to have you for a landlord, JP!

Ok, so it's NOT just me! I've been swearing up and down my entire life some bee stings hurt way worse than others. Some just burn and burn. Others I feel a quick stick and it's over. Other people have told me that's not possible. I've been stung enough times, I truly believe some hurt far worse than others and it's not just based on where they sting me.

Hey JP thank you for the wealth of information you share. My wife is a hobbiest beekeeper and I’m a city boy. We recently got 2 boxes of bees and we will compete for honey. We got a call from a woman with bees colonized in her home for approximately 3 years. I watched your shed video and figured we’d be in for something like that. We cut out 1 ft deep of roofing above a bay window and found thousands of bees and approximately 60lbs capped and uncapped honey. I put an 8 frame box up on the house next to their entrance. We couldn’t find the queen so we scooped as many bees as we could into the box with a local company’s version of Swarm Commander. It didnt work I put some lemongrass oil on a cotton ball and left the box overnight. We checked on the box the next day, no bees inside the box and 98% of the bees left. Soooo. We are going back monday to cleanup and double check all bees are gone so replacement windows can go in. We also had a huge wasp come in attack a bee and fly off with it. We saw the wasp again my wife had her phone she got a 6 second clip ending with the wasp flying at her. She almost fell off the ladder We used a bucket of water just like you Thanks so much

Been watching you for a while now. I used to be scared of bees- just hearing one nearby was enough to make me scoot for cover. After watching you and Randy doing your thing, this year, I made a little lean-to, put it on an old metal stand next to one of the many flowering bushes in my back yard, set a small dish of sugar water and some smelly honey in it, and have spent nearly a week being up close with the local bumblebees, getting photos and videos from inches away. No local honeybee colonies that feed on our property, but it's still awesome to get some time with the bumblebees. I would never have dreamed of doing this without you folks, and all the education I've gotten from you that's helped me overcome my fears. Thanks again, and keep on doing the good work for the gals!

Indeed the best way to stop being scared of bees is to see someone who is not scared. I had this experience just last weekend: the tenant of a house I own in the countryside had no experience with bees, and their presence in a tree that bloomed in the garden terrified her. I went there, stood under the tree just inches from the bees, stretched my hand towards them, and expressed how lucky she was to have the bees working around and enjoy the lovely sound of them. Fear went away (for good, I hope)!

Fun Fact. Bumblebees have "degenerated" stings. Essentially almost all bumblebees can't sting through a human skin anymore. So there is nothing to be afraid of with the little bumbles.

I've been watching several bee keeping videos. I really like your's about retrieving hives from places they aren't wanted. I have never heard any bee keeper mention the use of Baking Soda for bee stings. Just put a quarter size bunch of Baking Soda in your palm and add just enough water to make a loose paste and apply it to the sting. Try not to move the area to much for a few minutes because as the paste starts to dry it will fall off. This paste also works on wasp stings. I have used this on kids and grandkids for almost 50 years. If they get stung they come running to get the pace put on. Thanks for your videos.

Part is the fact he stays calm and works very calmly, this reduces carbon dioxide and sweat. Also, notice how careful he is about not killing bees carelessly. 628 dirtrooster has a vedio on honey extraction from a hive removal. He just uses his hand and crushes the comb then let's it sit in a strainer so all the honey drains into a bucket. Also some times if the honey is contaminated with insolation,sawdust,sheetrock dust or was gathered from a source that the honey does not taste good (certain types of nector make bad tasting honey)the bee keeper will place it out side and the bees from his hives will come and take it back to their hive and store it to be fed to their workers.

Good video, except for most of the video the camera wasn't zoomed in enough to be able to see what you were doing. I would have liked to know what happened with the second queen. Did you ever find her? If so, what ended up happening to her? Iwould have swept that board off before I started pulling it apart, the board that was falling apart. I think less dust and dirt would have gotten on the comb that way. Other than that, good video. 👍

I have always had a interest in bees and when I was a kid I remember hearing that when a queen hatches it goes around searching for other queen cells and she kills them by stinging. I have never heard you say this and with the queen cell mystery in this video I am wondering if what I heard was true. Could you elaborate on that sometime. Also do you have any vids of queens mating. I know it would be hard to get but you work with bees and figured you might have a video of it.

@JPthebeeman 2 года назад
I actually have mentioned on several occasions virgin queens hatching out & “piping” to locate rival queens, then stinging them through their cells, you must have missed it. Mating amongst bees occurs in “staging areas” that are anywhere from 20-50 feet above the ground & unfortunately I don’t have any footage of that but I do have a video of queen bees piping, it’s called “Virgin Queens Piping In An Attic Space.”

@@JPthebeeman Yeah I probably haven't seen those vids yet. You have a lot and I've only seen a few so far. I never herd the term 'piping' until I started to watch your videos. Wasn't sure what it meant but now I know. I just watched a video where you said some queen cells can have dead workers in them instead, which surprised me. You didn't really say how that happens though. Do they feed the larvae the wrong food for a queen? So then the worker can't get out of a queen cell.

What do you use in your smoker, i use pine needles and they burn up pretty fast. What your using seems to last quite a bit longer.

what do you rub on your skin, a kind of sun milk so as not to be bitten by the bees?

Hey JP - This video definitely has a different look to it and the sound is better too. Are you using different recording equipment?

@@JPthebeeman I can’t say for sure. I watch all of your videos as soon as I see they’re posted. None of them are bad, all are excellent quality. Just the most recent one looks and sounds specially crisp and clean for some reason. Maybe it’s just me.

David Collins I don’t have an answer for that one, using my new Sony & iPhone on the last several videos. Maybe it’s something RU-vid has tweaked on their end. Either way, glad you’re seeing an improvement in quality. 👍🐝

@@Animal_encounters I think I've seen them. My wife is from Thailand. one time we went to Myanmar. I always keep a lookout for bees wherever I go. Saw a strange bee, looked sort of grey. I thought was a wasp. Local guy said they wouldn't sting but did not make any honey.

Question: do you transfer the queen cells over to the new hive box? Have a great day
@JPthebeeman
@JPthebeeman 2 года назад
If need be, yes, or combine them with a queen right colony, if they are queenless.

@JPthebeeman

David Williams no & I wouldn’t ever do it either. Bee repellents as a rule are eye & skin irritants so you wanna be careful with it.

Cresote from the railroad ties mildly toxic. A percentage of queen deaths, not total. Just my guess on this. Please let me know what you find out.
