Thought I'd share the joy of running audio through this gem from the 1980s.
Eaton Bray is actually the predecessor of "Soundmaster".
Those consoles have always been on the gritty side, but coveted for the mangling abilities.
The EQ here is extra funky, and I love the way it breaks up.
Not for the faint at heart - sure.
Give me some love with likes / subs and I'll post more stuff..

really impressed with the sound of this console. I'm using a Soundcraft GB2R and can not get anywhere close to this lovely dirt you show here. Since there are no such consoles to buy anywhere - have you found anything similar sounding during the years ? Love all your videos by the way !

Thanks for the kind words. The earliest Studiomaster consoles with VUs and this peculiar parametric bass EQ (30 .. 300Hz) will get you exactly that sound - they're electronically identical. Other affordable crunchy console I've come across: - Ibanez RM80 - Sennheiser M101 - Old Yamaha PM series - Sony MX16 / MX20

@@3str thank you ! I"ll dig deeper into these models. I will also try to experiment more with my Dynacord DRS 78 input EQ. I saw you got good results with it.

Hey Michael. I’m purchasing/picking up an Eaton Bray 12into2 mixing console next week and was wondering if you have any interesting info/schematics/manuals etc for this unit? I have been looking online but it seems info is quite scarce. Thanks, Andrew

Hey Andrew, sorry I have no schematics either. But the electronic design is very straightforward, there are no fancy parts, and definitely nothing unobtainium.

Beautiful board and sound. They look similar to the first Studiomasters 16 into 4 . Do they perform similar?

I haven't worked with the later Studiomaster boards but have heard that they're all very good at "playing dirty". At least looking at the schematics they seem quite similar.

Apparently, from what I gathered so far, the Studio masters 16:4:2 that are good are extremely rare to find : the company was created in 1976, and by 1980, their 16:4:2 turned from a beautifully crafted mixer with wooden sides and quality faders and pots into a piece of junk with small plastic ones and black sides. Some fella over at Gearstlutz forum said that only the ones with wooden sides and big knobs were good, with "ace EQs", and that all later versions, after the company was mysteriously acquired, were junk - including the one with a brochure where Phil Collins accepted to pose for a significant enough fee... anyway, problem is... well they are nowhere to be found. You will find two Studio masters with wooden sides on Reverb, but the knobs are small and cheap. It appears I'm quite lucky, as the only one I found with both wooden sides and big knobs happen to be a 3h drive away from my home in Canada and also in near-mint condition :D I will report on this find. 300$ while the ones with the cheap pots, two 16:8, are for sale at 900 each... not to shabby

@@jas_bataille what was your experience with the Studio masters ? Are they sounding anywhere close to this demo ?

Hi! Do you know if there is an easy way to change the power input on these devices? I'm about to buy one but the original power block/adapter is gone. Eager to use this mixer on my drums. Thanks in advance.
@3str
@3str Год назад
Hey Stephan, this console has an internal PSU so you shouldn't need an external power block, just a regular IEC power cable. Our is your internal PSU toast?
