Independent radio station operator Mam Sonando is scheduled to return to Cambodia this week, despite concerns that he will be detained upon his arrival in Phnom Penh. Mam Sonando, director of the country's Beehive Radio/FM 105, which carries VOA Khmer and RFA Khmer programming, faces accusations of involvement with an anti-government group and threats of prosecution. He denies the allegations and says he works to raise issues important to Cambodian citizens. "Whoever stands up to love the nation and protect the country is always shortlived," he told VOA Khmer via Skype on Tuesday from Seattle. "And it is my turn this time."
Mam Sonando is booked on a flight scheduled to land in Phnom Penh on Thursday, July 12 after an international trip to meet supporters and cover the story of an overseas Khmer movement to charge the Cambodian government in the International Criminal Court for brutality. VOA Khmer's Kimseng Men conducted the interview. For full English coverage, visit www.voanews.com...
