I ran across this video and i think it awesome how you added the flow system. I am in the process of building a long hive and want to incorporate the flow frames and have seen your version which i like best. Thanks for showing us your Bee home. From across the pond in Georgia, USA city of Hephzibah. Good luck and many thanks.
Thanks for your kind words and best of luck building yours. If you are on facebook, join the group Horizontal Flow Hives as there are lots of ideas in there too.
I just found your channel and I enjoy watching your videos. Keep them coming please. I will be making a few Long Langstroth/Hybrid Hives too. Thanks for what you do.
Gr8 update, Kat. I should have listened closer to dialogue and would have noted you were Kiwis. Weee used often “bet” for bit … might be rivals on the turf and on the paddock but best of mates after the games and a few beers. Cheers…
Hello from across the ditch! Great hive and video. Have you and your hubby released the plans yet? I'd love to have a few of these in my backyard too. Thanks in advanced!
Just a thought, the mesh at the entrance, if you can find a way so you can easily slide it up to remove dead bees? Also the handle on the lid to be able to pull it forward without catching your fingers. Can you please make a follow up of a hive inspection with a portion showing the ladies coming and going out the entrance. Thank you for sharing.
The sliding mesh is a great idea, but it would only be possible with the stainless steel mesh, as it has strength that the aluminium mesh lacks. But to be honest, the bees have dealt with the dead bees themselves (it does make it a little bit harder on the mortuary bees though). I don’t think we need a handle on the lid as my method is to grasp the top lip and pull from there. Even with my wonky shoulder, that works perfectly fine. I just did an update video yesterday so I will post that shortly, but I didn’t get a close-up of the bees using the entrance, I’ll go out there this morning and get some footage for you.
@@Kat_Andrews Thank you for replying and making the effort. I look forward to seeing the videos you make with the new hives. I watch Fred's channel specifically to get a few updates of how the ladies winter and grow. You guys have much better weather than us in Canada. I hope you are able to stay Varroa free.
@@kennith. I’m actually in New Zealand, not Australia, so we deal with varroa year round. As I type I am uploading the update video to YT, and I even did the requested entrance footage for you, listen out for your own special mention 🤣 Give it about 30 mins and it should be viewable. RU-vid is very slow to load here as we live in the country and have to use slow wireless broadband.
I thought that a beehive was vertical to increase the temperature in the upper chambers where the honey is stored to help bring down the moisture content.
