Sounds like a game that would suit my wife and I well! We love farming games, but most take a decent amount of setup and time to play. This sounds like the perfect evening game for us to scratch the farming itch :) thanks Luke! I hadn't really paid this one much attention until now
Always on the look out for new 2-player games. Please that this has some interesting decisions on card use and isn't too heavy, and would be happy playing it for 45-mins. The theme is a little generic but I like the look of this game. Thanks for the review, but would be good to get a core out of 10 for you - or did I miss that?
I played first game last night. Loved it! Great combination of game mechanics and I like the unique end scoring. Has some player interaction with offering excessive resources and mandatory card swapping. So happy to see a 2 player resource management (farming to market)/multi-use card drafting game. First game with 2 board game enthusiasts did probably take over an hour. Moments of analysis paralysis as we were learning the game. Looking forward to future play! Thanks for your comprehensive review. I will bring it for travel knowing that it’s to be used at a destination with ample table space.
So I see you have a copy of Prêt-à-Porter in the background.. Is there any way you could make a how to play video ? My wife and I can't get our heads around the rules, and the videos that are out there aren't very good.
Sorry I don't do tutorial videos as they are a huge time sink and only the biggest names yield any good reward for them. I wouldn't have the time to jump in on those also.
If two if the biggest cons are that it isn't a gateway game and that it's not a filler game when it comes to play time, then it must be pretty good. Otherwise there would be worse things to complain about. Thanks for a stellar review.
Glad the format change suits! The overview segment used to be a massive time-sink, but as I'm sticking to just general overviews now and not rules explanations, they are much shorter and easier to edit now.
Nice to see you back Luke! I wouldn't mind giving this a try, even though I don't usually play 2-player games. Also, I like the new graphics between the segments.

I feel that multi use cards aren’t that big of a deal. Isn’t it the case that any resource can be used for two different things is the same feeling as multi use cards?
Great review - really helpful. A lot of 2-player game options seem to be shorter dedicated 2-player games or playing a longer multiplayer with 2, so I really like the sound of something in between. Very interested in this when it gets to my FLGS. Thanks!
Your videos are exceptional. The quality, the information... Anyway, so glad to see this is game meets your approval. I've been eyeing this one for a while. (Woulda been nice to see 1-2 players on the box though... oh well, no big whoop)
Excellent review as always Luke. I'm interested in this but might wait to see if an official solo mode comes out for it first as the length and complexity just pushes it out of my families range I think for small box games.
Buy Glass Road instead of this game, it has way more interesting decisions and isn't that much longer with 2 players. Beer & Bread doesn't deliver what it promises, 6/10 at best.
Glass Road is a better game for sure but it's a different feel from this one. Plus not too much longer with more players..... Hmmm...... Its pretty big diminishing returns with added players, both from a chaos factor and from a "how long do I have to wait for everyone to make their choices" factor.
We have this game and *love* it! Fwiw it definitely doesn't feel like a typical Scott Almes design (I've gotten burned by them in the past as well). I highly recommend it if you enjoy 2P games; this is a really nice small Euro with some meaty decisions to it.
I felt like they could easily have taken this game up a thematic notch by naming the different types of beer and bread you are making. Certainly more than enough types out there! Also would have been nice if it leaned more into the processes of the two, fermenting, proving etc. rather than just sell and sweep away (or whatever the in game phrasing is). For a game that appears to be very thematic, it actually ends up being a lot drier than it should! Also agree with the repetitiveness of abilities. I’d rather have powerful abilities like ‘all white breads are worth double points’ (which could tie in to the different bread varieties suggested above) rather than ‘you get 1 of x resource each year’. Any thoughts Luke?
