Bees guarding the Gold

Prospecting for gold in the Australian Outback is not for the faint of heart. In this case we had to deal with snakes and swarms of native bees.
The trip started off on a good note and after a mine exploration nearby the camp Krissy picks up a few gold nuggets in their new prospecting area in the Pilbara, Western Australia. She detects a different spot the next day where she manages to find gold as well but she soon had enough from being swarmed by hundreds of bees.
Mark gives that area a try and soon realises the discomfort of bees crawling all over his skin. Persistence pays out for him by returning to "bee creek" until he unearths a nice big nugget.

In 1987, I built an ULF detector using the rim of a 5 gallon plastic pail as the coil form. It operated at a frequecy of 5 kilohertz. It could easily detect an object the size of your hand at a 4 foot depth. I stll have it and it still works. I used to have fun, following people with a conventional detector and dig-up targets that they had just missed. It used to drive people nuts.

Eastern brown snakes eh! Really good idea not to get too close to those little buggers. How come the bees aren't stinging you? Not that I want them to, 🤣 it's just I've never heard of bees that don't sting. The Pilbara is a very strange place. It even looks like it belongs on Mars or somewhere similar when the drone got a shot of the mountain/hills that look like they have been stripped bare of trees and plants AND grass after the fires. It doesn't seem to matter what the conditions are like to you. If there is gold YOU will find it. Thankyou again Krissy and Mark for another entertaining adventure. Cya! 🇭🇲🤗
@OutbackGoldFever
@OutbackGoldFever 2 года назад
The snakes were a real worry out there! Never seen that many in one spot, they must have hatched nearby. The bees were native bees, they don't sting but are even more annoying than flies because they crawl into sleeves and up the shorts. If the country is rough, it usually hasn't seen many detectors yet 👍🏻
@robbie8142
@robbie8142 2 года назад
@@OutbackGoldFever Thanks for that info Krissy. I'm still a bit stumped with the "Native" bees. Kinda sounds like they wear masks and throw spears. 🥴 Somewhere down deep in the uncharted scary recesses of my mind lies a thought that maybe, just maybe Krissy is trying to tell me that the stingy bees are from somewhere other than Australia and that is why she calls the non stingy bees natives. Is that correct or am I having a misfire in my brain again? All the way into the shorts eh? 😳!

Fore your snake problem In And around your camp find several long horse hair lassos and tape the ends together to form a circle around your camp. There's also one brown snake that the aboriginals in WA call something like 'walk around snake' because it's literally so dangerous that they walk around it rather than approach it. How often do you have to replace the skid plates on the coils ? Have you used the 19 inch coil on the 7000?
@OutbackGoldFever
@OutbackGoldFever 3 года назад
Skid plates last about 3-4 months for us. We use the 19 rarely because of its weight 🐘

1. you can collect the dead snakes freeze/dry freeze the. Might be a new species not that long ago a new big venomous snake was found in Australia's outback. 2. why dont you dig/metal detecting at night to dangerous? will the snakes/bugs swarm you at night?

White's GMT Goldmaster E series. Works real good for me in very hot rocks area. Lower Death Valley area, California. Computer memory stores signals of junk including hot rocks and only sounds of on gold or new junk to be programmed. Very hot area dessert. Be prepared with water and fuel.

Sounds like a great machine, would be handy in areas like this. Carry water in multiple containers so you don't lose all your supply if you have a failure 👍

I wonder if you shared a little water with the bees, fill a small hollow in a rock or something, they might have left you alone.
@OutbackGoldFever
@OutbackGoldFever 2 года назад
We didn't, water is scarce out there and evaporates in no time in the heat. Good idea but not practical in desert country.

Hi 👋, Thanks kindly for your great segment , I think it's in Pilbara , but I'm not so sure as you don't really disclose the town close to where Yous are detecting, which I guess I can understand. You don't want a whole gang of people following Yous ,then draining the ground of nuggets, which can be yours right. I gotta give you both credit for your eager spirits on the hunt for gold in the harsh WA outback.. In this video you've got BEES & SNAKES to contend with, my oh my..😲😲... Yous be very careful , when living in NSW , in 1977, whilst standing in a dry creek, was tending to some cattle. Within 3 minutes I got a snake bite, and almost lost my life.. The man up above was looking down on me. I did some detecting back in 1990 to 93... After finding nothing much, in Victorian fields, I sold my Minelab detector in 1993.. It was a GT16000 model back then.. The technology has come a mighty long way since those years, from what I can see now.. I was thinking of taking up the hobbie again, as I'm 56, I think it would be a good thing for me, it'd take my mind off things that happened last year, the dreaded 2020. Lost both my parents due to covid 19, late last year, just heartwrenching...😂😂.... Anyway that's life, what can you do.. Well thankyou for reading this message. Thanks for your great RU-vid channel shows, it's very inspiring indeed, Yous are a true inspiration to lots of people out there. Keep searching and may you get many more fruitful finds of that heavy yellow stuff..👌👍👋😎✅✅✅✅✅.. Kindest wishes from Victoria..👍 .

Yes, we agree, that is naughty and a seat belt should be worn at all times. Thanks for being observant and being concerned about our safety 💛👍🏻

Black flies are quite the irritant aren't they when there is a hundred of them on you nibbling away.

Hi from Linda, What do U do when U see a snake? I thought the noise from the detector would make them move to another area? I'm terrified of snakes but would still like to try detecting in the outback. Is there anything that will keep them away?

Hi, I need to no if anything will keep snakes away, u didn't really answer my question.
@OutbackGoldFever

Most snakes will stay where they are if they feel they are in a safe spot as you approach. Being scared of them is good in a way as you'll be more aware of your environment. Move slowly away from them if you see them and you should not have any issues with them whilst detecting. Watch our bush safety vid for the precautions we take Linda. 👍 Happy hunting

There is an electronic device available to deter/ repell snakes. We have not done any research to know if it actually works. Check out some youtube videos on snake repeller. We don't see that many snakes to know if it was working or not. Most look like they are made for your home but you could probably carry one with you.
