There are no words to describe this solitary beauty between the romance instruments, the cello and the piano. They work so meticulously to create a lovely duo of a sonata that is both gorgeous and heart crashingly beautiful. I feel that Beethoven had this internal feeling of beauty that he could not hear, but express through the simple words of music calling out to him from the unknown. This is a gift.

I had this record at school in 1975 and used to play it in my study when the boys in their rooms on either side would be playing Hendrix or Ozzie Osborn! I used to turn it up full volume! Fantastic playing by Tortelier and Heidsieck but Oh Beethoven!!.....no words!!

One of Beethoven's finest, most dynamic and haunting works certainly, in beauty and depth of melody, with so lovely a clarity of line, emotional of change of pace, mood, expectancy, intervals of discord that enhance the lovemaking between cello and piano, an ecstasy like no other, a fidelity though, something to last for ever. And wonderfully portrayed, given, here.

Well Sabina - Beethoven is probably the best of the best. To be able to write the music he wrote when he was stone deaf?? He truly is one of the greatest composers to have ever lived. Listen to the 9th Symphony, he never ever heard a word of that symphony except in his head. I cry every-time I see it in concert or listen to it.

You know, it's actually a good thing being here because of If I stay. It means that the movie actually opened up a whole new world for a lot of people. I've been crazy about classical music since I was small, played the piano since I was 4, but If I stay made me fall in love with the cello.I always thought the cello was just a bad violin, but now I realized that the cello is a better version of a violin! (Imo ofc) I'm thankful that movie was made. Cello music is just more relaxing to me, than piano music. Helps me when I have anxiety attacks or if I'm really really stressed :)

@@haii7760 it's a violin for people who weren't forced into playing music. Anyone with actual love for music, would choose the cello over violin. In addition to a bigger range, cello has a richer, more complex tone. It is roughly the size of an adult male's torso, and it's the instrument closest in sound to that of the human voice. When you play it, it rests on the left side of your chest, close to the heart. If cello isn't your favourite instrument, I truly pity you. For your sake, I hope you also see the light one day! Good luck dear stranger

We simply can't argue that the fathoming frech fingers of Paul tortelier should've received more appraise for this limited piece of Beethoven A minor sonato No 3, OP 69. I would have say that being elected to play in the Boston Symphony back in his younger day under the great russian composer Serge Koussevitsy must've been quite an honor. Paul's colorful work of the 9th symphony was a rare treat.

This is in my mind the greatest of all piano/cello sonatas, with Brahms' first and perhaps Debussy's. The th and 5th open this outstanding period of the so-called Beethoven's"third manner", some kind of absolute period in the whole story of our classical music since the "Ecole de Notre Dame", together with final Bach's life. I would turn the problem by writing that they "stand aside". This sonata is a top level model of global varied symetry, and of Olympian and Apollinian mood. It is hard, for instance, to find an analogy in the 32 piano sonatas. Many examples can come to the ùmind: Tempest, Waldstein, Appassionata, etc. but there is always such or such feature which make the comparison wrong. The same for the string quartets, even not taking into account the number of movements in itself.
@timothythorne9464
@timothythorne9464 3 года назад
Beethoven's piano sonatas are generally more experimental and progressive in character than his chamber music with piano. This Cello Sonata op 69 is Apollonian and possesses a classical reserve, in spite of its lyricism throughout each movement. It's one of the master's finest works.

I'm here because I bought the TV Guide from my birthday(October 1967, Johnny Carson on the cover) and discovered that at 6:30PM on the day of my birth, a show called Music For The Cello played it on channel 11(Theo Saltzman on cello and Joseph Evans on piano) So now it's kinda my theme song.

Me to Kim. Just try and play each piece your on, even if it is simple, as if you are playing something like the above. I don't expect to sound any good until about 4 or 5 years. It took me that long or longer playing the trumpet. Now I'm trying the Cello at 50. It is fun!
