Klare und saubere Aufführung dieser fein komponierten Klaviersonate im angemessenen Tempo mit gut artikuliertem Anschlag und angenehmer Dynamik. Der letzte Satz ist besonders hörenswert!

Nicely done. This is one of the most lovely of Beethoven's sonatas.

apparently Beethoven would choose the 2nd movement to ply whenever he was asked to play something of his (provided he was in a good enough mood, I suppose). That movement contains the only music that has made me laugh out loud. it's got a genuinely comical bit in it (from 12:55)

There's something about this sonata. Each movement is singular and modest, yet with such uber-wonderful ideas - they're almost a little too good. And how about 19:37 Beethoven brandishing those 20th century chops!

my favorite beethoven sonata by a wide margin. the first movement is one of beethoven's best. i love this performance - sometimes feels hurried, but maybe that's because, as a shit pianist, i have to play it slower

I do like this performance better than any of the others I've listened to on youtube, and that includes those by such luminaries as Maurizio Pollini. However, I would like it better still if it were taken a smidge slower. My edition of the score (one of the standards, "revised and fingered by Dr. Hans von Bülow and Dr. Sigmund Lebert") suggests the first section be played at 69 bpm. Michael Brown is taking it at about 76 bpm. (He takes the subsequent sections also approximately the same degree faster than recommended.) I concede that playing faster shows off the pianist's virtuosity, and that is one of the points of playing a Beethoven sonata; but it is not the only point. We also want the musical storyline, the progression of harmonies and melodies and rhythms, to make narrative sense. Here he is rushing me through the plot points when I yearn to relax and soak up a little atmosphere.
